  Skills: Aside from magic, Viorel was raised on a farm, so he knows how to raise chicken and grow crops like potatoes and corn. He speaks three languages fluently. Has a great memory and recites many spells with ease, furthering his mastery of black magic. His brother taught him to fish and survive in the forest. Viorel is great at climbing too and has great coordination, even when blind, in general. Wears a hood and blindfold in public to avoid meeting anyone's gaze.
  Weaknesses: Very light sleeper. Not an insomniac, but he does sleep less than the average person. Due to an injury he had a child, his right arm (non-dominant) is significantly weaker than the other. Regardless, he doesn't engage in hand-to-hand combat, and knows nothing of swordsmanship. Viorel relies solely on his magic in combat. Cannot perform much light magic due to his curse. As another side-effect of the basilisk curse, Viorel also has weak vision.

  Viorel was born in the quaint town of Nor'fare to father Sarkis Saxe and an unnamed mother, who died after his birth.
  
  His father never mentioned Viorel's mother to him, and forbid his older brother Kyle from doing so as well. The incomplete family lived on a small farm until Sarkis snapped mentally. After the death of his sons' mother, Sarkis' sanity wore thin. Sarkis hung himself on the night of Viorel's 5th birthday.
  
  In twelve-year-old Kyle's hands fell the responsibility of raising his brother. They took refuge in a shed near the dark wood, away from the peering villagers of Nor'fare. They spoke of the brothers not truly being related and disproved of their bastard likeness.
  
  One day, Kyle and Vio ventured into a daunting cave. They spent the day touring its tunnels and narrow passageways. When they emerged again, the poised moon shone its light through the canopy. They tried to return home in the dark, but amidst the twist and turns of the wood, they strayed off course. Soon, they found themselves staring up a stone tower in the center of a clearing.
  
  A shadowed man overlooked the ledge of the highest window.
  
  Suddenly, the entrance blew open, and another man stomped over to them, his footsteps shaking the very ground. He walked so heavily that he staggered along the way.
  
  Viorel questioned the unnatural manner in which he moved. When his face caught the moonlight, Viorel also saw his rotted features. Bruises the shape of hand prints dappled his neck.
  
  The man drooled and watched them with droopy, mismatched eyes.
  
  Kyle pulled Vio to run, but the man lurched forward and claimed Vio's other arm. They fought over the boy for a long moment.
  
  Then, Kyle's hand slipped.
  
  Vio fell to the man's feet.
  
  The man slung Vio over his shoulder. He turned and retreated to the stone tower. The door creaked as the man parted it more to throw Vio inside. He bound in after him. Baritone laughter erupted, and the entrance slammed shut.
  
  His brother banged on the door and rammed into it. In between grunts, Kyle's cries grew into wails.
  
  Viorel reflected on the severity of his situation, and realized his life depended on his captor, a wicked sorcerer.
  
  The sorcerer would dictate his childhood. He relentlessly experimented on Viorel, and punished the boy whenever he refused. The cruelest spell Soren implemented was known as the Basilisk. The sorcerer carved out Viorel's eyes and implanted those of a slain snake-beast. The curse decreed whoever met his gaze would be turned to stone.
  
  Viorel would never look into another human's eye as long as he lived.

  During his time spent with the sorcerer, Viorel learned a few spells. He had no natural inclination to magic, but the Basilisk's curse opened him up to a specific kind: black magic. His proficiency surpassed that of his mentor's.
  
  The sorcerer, Soren, heeded his talent and experimented on him less frequently. Soren instead devoted his time to teaching Viorel about the dark magic world he himself could never delve deep enough into.
