  • Personality: An outgoing people-pleaser, John loves the spotlight and all the applause that comes with it. He's driven and works hard for his admiration and plays just as hard to cut loose...and, though very loving, can sometimes get distracted by his own greatness, though moreso in his youth.

• Biography

  John's mother, an attempted starlet who just didn't make it to the stage, needed a muse and a break. What she thought she was getting was a chance to sleep with a producer to get a role, something which, while she wouldn't ever advocate per se, she definitely wasn't above as a last resort. What she got was a half-muse whoops-baby.
  
  She knew the last thing the world needed was another starving-artist-maker. So she brought him up in the arts to give him an appreciation for the work it took. No son of hers was going to go inspiring people for the sake of nothing more than fame and have them stuck supervising warehouse shifts when nothing panned out and he'd moved on.
  
  It worked...sort of.
  
  John developed a voracious appetite for dance by the time he had enough coordination to jump. As he got older he had just as much passion for the performing arts themselves as he did for inspiring people to create in them, with a particular weakness for those who could indulge him in both. And while he does enjoy inspiring people (men in particular for certain definitions of "inspiring"), the thirst to make his own mark quickly overrode his desire to be the force behind someone else's. Obsessed with finding his own place in the spotlight, John pushed himself hard, far, young, single-mindedly and a little recklessly.
  
  The problem with being a muse and an artist is that you'll always inspire the people around you...maybe to be better than yourself. John never seemed able to hold on to a principal position or headlining role; when he got them he inevitably worked (and played) too hard to keep the honors for more than a season before burning out or hurting himself. With accolades he also amassed injuries that eventually put him back behind the scenes, forcibly humbled.
  
  Nothing gave perspective like choreographing from brief stints in a wheelchair or giving dance lessons with a cane. John still may not exactly listen to his own limits, but he let his ego take a back seat and splits his time between his own professional ambitions and encouraging everyone else's - including through a string of amiable love affairs with musicians, writers, poets, dancers... These days John's learned to value the process, the passion, and even the product more than the attention that comes from them.
  
  Knowing artistry alone can't sustain someone forever, he tries never to get too serious with his artists, but it doesn't keep him from maintaining adoring almost romantic-looking professional relationships with as many as possible, including an ex-husband who relocated to Georgia with their just-now-teenage daughter, for as long as he can hang onto them and still feel like an ethical person...er...being. They even convinced him to relocate himself after the last dance and theater season, once he hit a lull in other projects.
  
  So far it isn't exactly what he expected.
