• Prelude

  This character is, above all things, a parasite. An incorporeal one. It is a spirit, effectively genderless and utterly neutral on the scale of good or evil. There are quite literally countless of which are identical-- invisibly operating like vibrations, weak bundles of energy on the non-physical plane that exists in the exact same space as ours, overlaid like a transparency, carrying on as the rose tinted glass of spirituality in our world. They do not live or die, but are occasionally plucked to exist as souls for a short fraction of their existence, ruthlessly cracked open to absorb a sharp, overwhelming taste of the physical world before being flushed back home, wholly unconscious as they once were.
  
  Sometimes, they are plucked for other things, for not all that is spiritual is featureless. There is good, and evil, and countless other manifest wars that exist on all planes. There are demons and hell and gods and angels and every religious paradise ever imagined, all coexisting, all thrumming on the same plane with the same interconnected web work of thoughts, and ideas, and dreams. Imagine just about anything, anything at all, and it exists on the spiritual plane. The brain is not the sole engineer of imagination-- it is but a single catalyst in a universe of creation. It is the chemical harbinger of the human condition, indicative of the soul that writhes within.
  
  It's all connected. All things are connected. And there are spirits in our world.
  
  This single, utterly insignificant spirit, of which has no background, no thoughts or desires, of which may have been plucked once or a thousand times before, is just like any other. It is merely a capsule of energy, and therefore just is. It is unconscious, and merely reacts to the preordained laws of the universe, as all do. It mimics physics much as matter does on the physical plane, but solely by spiritual rules, which are quite similar, but endlessly different. It cannot be created, or destroyed. However it can be repurposed. It can be possessed, taken, used, molded to fit any which whim, and discarded once it is no longer useful. It is a resource. And it could've filled the murderous hearts of some of the most vile creatures the physical world has ever known.
  
  It also could have been the shining, selfless soul of any number of saints... but that's less interesting.
  
  Above all things, it has been plucked once again.
