• Description

  A massively built Manticore, hide a swirling mixture of rusty reds and dark browns, and littered with scars. Most have lost their meaning with time, but the two largest scars on either side of the beast's body are remnants of previously held wings. Once an arena combatant, they were removed by her master to prevent her from flying away. As such, she is terrestrially bound, but the powerful muscles throughout her body more than make up for the loss. With a mane and tail thick with quills, and a venomous barb nestled at the end, Xafara can be an intimidating creature to approach. Her heavily scaled face and robust horns certainly don't make her look any friendlier. At times there is a gentle look to her eyes, though more often she simply looks tired, irritable, or deadpan.

  Venom and Toxin Resistant
  Being a producer of a natural venom, Xafara has an inborn resistance to most natural venoms and toxins. Ingested poisons can still wreak havoc on her digestive tract, but she can recover from some poisons that might kill a weaker creature.
  
  Fire Resistant Hide
  Xafara's hide has natural fire resistant properties. She is not entirely immune to fire damage, as extreme heat can still cause internal burns, but she can resist the blast of a small fireball, or leap through a wall of flame without consequence. Her innards are just as susceptible to fire as most creatures though, and a blast of fire down the throat would likely be fatal.
  
  Physical Strength
  Description: Due to the conditioning of her past lifestyle Xafara is a tank filled with toned and powerful musculature. Though she may have difficulties carrying some things due to her injured hip, she can pull massive loads with the proper harness. Getting hit by her would not a pleasant experience. The experience could be likened to being hit by a bear on steroids. When her hip cooperates she can also leap great distances, and like any feline can wind up in some pretty surprising places.

  Injured Hip
  An old injury to her left hip, taken during a particularly nasty brawl in the arena, Xafara is sometimes subjected to shooting pain and a dull ache down her left leg. Cold weather makes it worse, and any blows to the area would likely cause a flare up. In the worst of times the area sometimes swells and can feel warm to the touch. When this happens Xafara usually resigns herself to a hot spring or a warm fireplace.
  
  Cannot Speak
  Though many of her species can speak, Xafara lacks the ability to do so. She is fully sentient, and intelligent enough to learn language, but her vocal cords have been damaged beyond the ability to form the sounds complex enough for language. Instead she is limited to chuffs, growls, grunts, and other sounds that a big-cat might make. She can bellow, but the sound takes great effort and causes her much pain.
  
  Coughing is particularly painful for Xafara, and sore throats from infections result in her vocal-ability reducing to raspy grunts and wheezes.
  
  Evidence of her damaged vocal cords can be seen beneath her mane as a twisted and mangled scar from a collar that was far too small. It sometimes itches unbearably, and when this happens Xafara may pluck the quills away from the area to soothe it.
  
  Note: She possess a magic gemstone that allows her to speak telepathically. She wears it around her neck. Without it she cannot use telepathy. The stone does not allow her to read the thoughts of others.

  Natural Abilities
  Venomous Barb
  Nestled within the quills of Xafara's tail is a single venomous barb. She must be within tail's reach to use it. The venom functions as a paralytic agent, causing the skeletal muscles of the victim's body to seize and then fall limp. Though the venom acts quickly, it is very rarely fatal except in extreme cases where non-skeletal muscles are affected, such as the heart, or allergic reactions.
  
  If the barb becomes damaged, or torn out, a replacement will grow within the span of a week.
  
  Quills - Defensive
  As a Manticore, Xafara's body is covered in hundreds of spiny quills. When inert they function, and feel, like thick hairs or bristles. When stiffened, however, they become rigid and are capable of impaling, and becoming lodged in, flesh. In function they are very similar to the quills of a porcupine.
  
  Quills - Offensive
  When Xafara's quills are stiffened/active, she is capable of flinging them from her body like a shaken pincushion. She can either launch the quills of her tail with a quick flick, and with decent accuracy, or send her quills flying like an explosion of massive needles by shaking her entire body.
  
  Due to their shape, and the force behind them when flung, Xafara's quills can potentially puncture plate mail (like crossbow bolts).
  
  Size Shifting
  Xafara is capable of shifting between three different sizes. Her default, and preferred, size places her at four feet and five inches tall. She can "puff" to make herself larger, and the action is usually accompanied by a sound similar to a leather sheet being shaken. At her largest, she is 5 feet tall. At her smallest Xafara stands at three feet and four inches, allowing her easier access to "tiny humanoid dwellings".
  
  An interesting thing to note about her size shifting, is that she never actually changes weight or mass. The density of her atomic makeup shifts to fill the provided volume. This, of course, means that her density changes. As a result she tends to sink like a rock in her smallest form, and has an easier time floating in her largest.
  
  Since Xafara's mass, weight, and strength do not change with her size, she can perform this feat at will, and does not require mental concentration to maintain the size change.
