• Description

  Bathilde, despite her bulk being typically constrained within the blue and white uniform of her ladyship's household, cannot hide what she is. Namely, she is a basket of apples--or a pound of speckled cherries spread within the hammock of a pretty girl's white apron--or a mound of soft new marshmallows freshly powdered with sugar. Everything about her calls to mind pleasant, round, warm things--soft wholesome things, appealing things. The twin curves of her freckled cleavage, visible above the modest square neckline of her bodice, are like two speckled eggs freshly plucked from the henhouse; her thighs beneath her skirt are two loaves of warm white bread. Her nose is a red and cheerful cherry, round and buttonlike, and her eyes and hair are smooth streams of dark molasses cascading over a teatime bun. Her cheeks are the clean, blushing curves of a apricots swimming in perfect, unblemished pools of new cream; her lips the lush but wholesome mounds of grapes slightly over-ripened in the sun--is that the darkened bruising of fleeting kisses from the kitchen boys and stable hands? Surely not! She would be horrified at the suggestion. Such a chaste little--well, not little--thing, this handmaiden. And surely she has the demure stance and ability to fade into the background so valuable to her profession--a discreet, brisk, capable creature, right down to the soles of her well-made but sensible boots.

• Biography

  Raised in the position of servant since she was a wee child, graduating eventually to the coveted position of chambermaid to her former master--a petulant, pouting, and altogether useless doll of a woman--Bathilde was dismissed from service when her lady took a husband and with him, his servants. With references like hers, however--sharp as a nail and quiet as a mouse; quick as a cat and as careful and honest as anyone can wish a servant to be--she quickly found new employment in a new household, under the employ of a lady quite a bit more formidable--and therefore interesting, although Bathilde would never be so indiscreet as to say so.
