  Jude Solomon, Hunter: The Vigil

  Virtue: Faith. A strongly devout Catholic since his failed suicide six and a half years ago, Jude attends St. Eustace’s Cathedral almost every day and confessional once a week. He’s a true believer in God and the Catholic belief system.
  
  Vice: Gluttony. Although he is a regular attendee to Alcoholics Anonymous as well as therapy, Jude still feels the cravings of alcohol and, to a lesser extent, cocaine, especially when reminded of his daughter Clare or his ex-wife Samantha.
  
  Background: Jude Solomon was born to the heir of a large pharmaceutical company, Gencorp, led by his father Michael and headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. An only child, his mother died from breast cancer when he was three and his father was too busy at work to spend much time with him. Unsurprisingly, he grew up the epitome of a spoiled brat and eventually evolved into a carefree playboy when he reached his 20s. Once it became clear that Jude was more interested in parties than business, his father removed him from any positions of power within the company. Still, when Michael Solomon died in 2002 he did leave the bulk of his estate to him although all of his stock in Gencorp went to Jude’s much more prepared and responsible cousin. Since it kept him wealthy and made sure he no responsibilities, Jude wasn’t terribly upset about the will.
  
  Despite his lifestyle, Jude did end up “settling down” with his college sweetheart Samantha. The two would have a daughter, Clare, in 1997 but they would divorce not long after Jude’s father died as Samantha could no longer stand Jude’s alcoholism or philandering. Tragedy struck on a Saturday morning in 2004 when Jude was returning home from an all night party and was still coming down from being high and drunk. He didn’t see Clare, spending time at Jude’s house per the custody agreement, playing on the driveway before he hit her with his car. In fact, it wasn’t until he was violently woken up on his couch by the police, half an hour later, that he had realized what he had done.
  
  Jude was convicted of DUI and involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to a year in jail where he was often on suicide watch. Meanwhile, Samantha cut him off completely, and his extended family mostly shunned him. Six months after leaving prison he attempted to blow his brains out but, by happenstance, he left the safety of the pistol on. The radio happened to be on and was playing “Hurt” by Johnny Cash.
  
  Overwhelmed with emotion Jude walked down the street to the nearest church, which happened to be the Catholic St. Eustace’s Cathedral, where he met Father George McAllister. Over time, Father George helped Jude attend rehab and outpatient therapy. As Jude developed his faith, rebuilt his shattered life, and began to be one of the St. Eustace’s largest donors Father George saw great potential in him and, in late 2010, recruited him in the Malleus Maleficarium having him join one of a number of the organization’s Cells in Boston.
  
  An amateur stunt driver before his daughter’s death, Jude has sharpened his skills to become a fantastic wheelman and, in the past year he has tousled with vampires, ghosts, and demons without breaking much of a sweat. Coupled with numerous friends he still has in high places as well as his large inherited wealth, Jude has proven himself to be a valued member of the Malleficarium in Boston.
  
  Description: Jude is a good looking man with dark hair and blue eyes who usually dresses in all or mostly black as a tribute to the late Johnny Cash. Combined with a mind that’s under almost constant siege from guilt and addiction, Jude has a brooding presence that makes him look somewhat older than his forty years.
  
  Roleplaying Hints: Despite the fact that he’s known to be vivacious and outgoing during parties, a remnant of his old personality, in private, Jude’s troubled past and dark clothing means he’s almost always serious and unsmiling. When he does crack a joke, his Cellmates are often unsure how to react since his bouts of humor are few and far between. Children also present a problem for Jude and he’s often excessively concerned for their wellbeing no matter the context. Additionally, during the anniversaries of his daughter, Clare’s birth and death, and to a lesser extent, his old marriage anniversary with Samantha, he is particularly vulnerable to relapse and emotional breakdown, something that happened during the last anniversary of Clare’s death. However, when the subject of cars come up Jude becomes animated, humorous, and quite friendly and he’ll go on at length about his beloved 1975 Ford Mustang.
