  Eleanor McKenzie, Mage: The Awakening
  
  Quote: “I finished growing up a long time ago. Now I just get older.”
  
  Virtue: Fortitude. Eleanor, despite everything, is determined to survive and improve her turbulent life. She quickly dismisses suggestions to take the easy path or simply give up.
  
  Vice: Wrath. Growing up in an abusive household and witnessing, even by postcognition, brutal murders and tortures committed by one’s parents has given Eleanor quite a chip on her shoulder. She is especially quick to anger if she sees someone is trying to prevent her from doing what she believes will help her survive on her own terms.
  
  Background: Eleanor was born Deborah Jordan to her parents Helen and Philip Jordan in Watertown, Massachusetts. Her mother was a Seer of the Throne mage while her father was a Sleepwalker. Debroah was raised in what could only be described as a uniquely dysfunctional household. Helen was determined to make her daughter an Awakened servant of the Exarchs and her training of Debroah was extremely strict at best and cruel at worst. Punishments were horrific and sometimes even showcased her mother’s skill in the Mind Arcanum. Philip, on the other hand, often did her mother’s “dirty work” and on more than one occasion Debroah noticed blood in the sink or the bathtub the morning after he had come in the middle of the previous night. Although they did send her to school, under her Shadow Name “Eleanor McKenzie”, they paid little attention to just about anything she did there…unless it interfered with her training of course.
  Whether it was in her blood, the constant training, or something else entirely, Eleanor had her Awakening at the tender age of thirteen which, in a rare event, thrilled her parents. It wasn’t long, however, before she used her abilities to examine parts of the house that had long since been “off limits.” When scenes of grisly torment, magical manipulation, and even murder were eventually revealed to her, a horrified Eleanor decided she needed to take her leave. Her plans involved skipping school early to get home while her parents were out, gathering supplies, and hitting the road with a plan to seek out the Pentarch mages somewhere in Boston.
  Arriving at her house, though, she spotted other Seer of the Throne mages, whom she had long thought of as “family friends,” enter the house forcibly. Things got even more complicated quickly as a group of witch hunters arrived and the quiet suburb block erupted into a large magical fire fight. She managed to flee into some nearby woods, using her powers to avoid detection from the warring factions. She wandered the woods before she returned to her high school and broke into the gym’s locker room to spend the night.
  It wasn’t long before she used her powers to confirm what she believed; her parents were brutally murdered by other Seers of the Throne. The only reason they weren’t there waiting for her was that she had arrived early and spotted them. Now, Eleanor still has her old plan of finding a safe haven but as a fifteen year old girl, on the run from magical killers with no money or friends, she has her work cut out for her.
  
  Description: At first glance, Eleanor looks like a typical American teenage girl from an upper middle class town. She’s pretty, petite, and sports long and well maintained brown hair. However, a closer look reveals rings around her eyes from a lack of sleep, almost constant glances behind her as she walks, and clothes that, while expensive, are dirty and worn.
  
  Roleplaying Hints: Fresh on the run from her parents’ killers, Eleanor is justifiably paranoid and insular. She’s slow to open up and even slower to trust. Even when things calm down, she’s unlikely to get better since, even if she was not on the run from her life, she still is struggling to deal with the trauma of her family being really gone. Naturally, her mood is often dark and angry.
  However, when engaged in a mature and non-condescending manner she will open up, at least somewhat, and reveal that she’s an intelligent and mature young woman with a rather fun personality. Also, there are times when, despite everything, she wants nothing more than to be a “normal girl” and will immediately warm up to whomever helps her live out the desire.
