Velrythun

Velrythun is an elf with a love of trees, as many of his elven kin are. From the forest city of Krethan, he grew up adventuring through the High-Wood that surrounds his homeland. He regularly worships and serves at the temple of Frenundr, a god of crafts, though his favor with that god is at times lofty due to his chosen profession. Through many of his adventures, he made contact with humans and sapient beasts, monsters and Quilrendor. The evil Orphiarx have even fallen into his eye sight, though he regrets his curiosity there, for beholding them has ruined his ability to hear and see at night without artificial light or heat around him.

He found refuge from his nighttime blind-deafness amid a later adventure to a human settlement, where a copper smith's late night work revealed to the elf that he had a way to work around his limitations. Once he learned the arts of forging and smithing from the humans, he returned to his home, only to realize that he would need to burn wood in some degree or venture far to trade for charcoals that the humans make for their forges. His dedication to his craft however keeps him in some favor with his now chosen god, for so long as he attempts to craft and improve himself, he at least has the blessing of the peerless arm and tool. So long as the blessing is renewed, his tools will not break and he can work for extensive periods of time before needing rest.

Though his fellow elves dislike his taking metal from the earth or burning wood for his heat, some have grown to admire his craft and even found it a worth while shortcut to the trinkets they may want that they might otherwise need to travel to human or beastly settlements for. With interactions between the various races and their gods on the rise, tensions and conflicts are mounting. Though some feel that Khaloaer will protect their home through remaining peaceful and passive, a few leaders of the elven capital are open to accept the notion that smiths may be a necessary presence in the city for making weapon heads, better tools, or even armor.

Many craftsmen, dwarven and human, have braved the deeper forest to visit the city, some have even been welcomed long enough to set up a forge there. Many can compete with Velrythun, for the outsiders working the craft seem better accepted and tolerated than a fellow elf performing the same acts. Though Velrythun has the blessing within his curse, that his blindness allows him to see his work in better focus, and his deafness allows him to work without the sounds he makes damaging himself as others might experience.
