    Thoma is eldest child to Frank and Alice Schmidt. He is the only son with two younger sisters, Emma and Rose, still in their early teens. Tom's childhood and school years were dominated by his parents drive to show off his intelligence. All of their money has been poured into him at the expense of his siblings future.

    College was no different. His parents forced him into pre-med though he preferred law due to his enjoyment of detective and crime entertainment. But was able to convince pre-law as his 'minor' studies.
