Bio- Permafrost grew up in the desert with her mother, her father had escaped back to the icewings to beg queen Snowfall for forgiveness after abandoning his tribe and ranks in the 3rd circle. Permafrost is very curious and smart, and has the deadly tail of a Sandwing, but the freezing breath of a icewing. She can also survive in frigid and arid temperatures.

SandWings, also known as Sand dragons by others or Desert dragons by scavengers, are a desert-dwelling tribe of Pyrrhian dragons whose scale pigmentation ranges from pale gold, light yellow, off-white, and pale brown. Fatespeaker describes the scales of a normal SandWing as “pale and sort of dusty looking”. SandWings are also able to survive for long periods of time without water and poison their victims with the tips of their venom-barbed tails, which are quite similar to a scorpion's. All SandWings have heat-radiating scales.

They live primarily in the Kingdom of Sand, but most members of the tribe live in either Queen Thorn's Stronghold or the Scorpion Den(that used to be, although some do live in Sanctuary and Possibility as well as other oases in the desert. Twenty years previous to the events of The Dragonet Prophecy, the SandWings were ruled by Queen Oasis until she was murdered by three scavengers who had stolen a few famous items from the SandWing Treasury, including the Lazulite Dragon and the Eye of Onyx. Oasis' three daughters, Blister, Blaze, and Burn, started a continent-wide war for the SandWing throne. Burn, the eldest sister, was allied with the MudWings, SkyWings, and some of the SandWings; Blister, the middle sister, was allied with the SeaWings, NightWings, and the Talons of Peace; and Blaze, the youngest, was allied with the IceWings, and most SandWings..

The War of SandWing Succession reached its end when Sunny gave the Eye of Onyx to Thorn, her mother, declaring her as the rightful SandWing queen. Although Burn and Blister died on the false Brightest Night, Blaze accepted Queen Thorn as her queen and currently lives in Queen Thorn's stronghold.

There is currently one known animus dragon in the SandWing tribe. Jerboa II is immortal, and currently lives in a small hut near the ocean bordering the Ice and Sand Kingdoms. She is the daughter of the only other known SandWing animus, Jerboa. In The Lost Continent, she tends to Luna, a SilkWing who had been blown into Pyrrhia from Pantala by a storm.

IceWings, also known as Ice Dragons by scavengers, are a tribe of Pyrrhian dragons with scale colors that vary from different shades of white, gray, silver, pale blue, light purple, and occasionally sky blue. IceWings have lethal frostbreath, whip-thin tails with multiple spikes on the end, serrated claws, and the ability to withstand subzero temperatures and bright light. They live in the northwestern area of Pyrrhia, or the "head of Pyrrhia," known as the Ice Kingdom, which is known for its cold winds, freezing temperatures, and the Great Ice Cliff. The IceWings supported Princess Blaze during the War of SandWing Succession, joining her alliance with the promise of a large portion of land near the SandWings' northern border if she won.

Before the events of Darkness of Dragons, the IceWing and NightWing tribes despised each other for a very long time, going all the way back to a war that took place about 2,000 years before the events of The Dragonet Prophecy. In Darkstalker (Legends), the IceWing and NightWing tribes feud was revealed to have been caused by a relationship between Prince Arctic and Foeslayer, in which Arctic fled the Ice Kingdom and his mother, Queen Diamond, vowed revenge on the NightWings for taking him away. Diamond believed that Foeslayer did not truly love Arctic, rather that she was sent to the Ice Kingdom by her tribe to steal Arctic's - and, by extension - the IceWings' animus magic.
