  • "Torn!! I summon thee!" A loud voice boomed through the hall of the keep.

    A slender, long haired elf glided into view from the shadows; hands folded and head bowed. His long silver robes flowed around him as he stopped swiftly in front of a large table. Seated at the head was the source of the voice. As Victoryn waited for another order, but was only met with silence. After another few seconds of hearing nothing, the elf spoke.

    "Your grace?" His silky voice answered.

    Bright blue eyes moved from the floor slowly up to where a dark, shadowy figure sat near the only candlelight in the room. Victoryn cursed himself for not bringing his glasses. The Duke smirked and waved his hand over to a woman escorting a young male. They moved into the light for the taller man to witness. The handmaiden stood proudly with the young man in front of her, her hands on his shoulders guiding his way through the keep. Victoryn tilted his head curiously and his lips turned upward into a pleasant, albeit forced smile.

    "You have been my head Cleric for all of your life, Torn." The Duke spoke, stroking his chin as he spoke.

    Victoryn flinched at the nickname, but made effort to not drop his smile toward the boy and Duke.

    "Yes, your Grace." He agreed.

    Visions flashed before his mind's eye; all his years in both the library and temple of Kriefast. Victoryn could see the Duke smile in the faint light, his teeth shining in the dark shadow of his figure. His eyes were the next the man noticed. Harsh orbs seamlessly floating in the distance as his hand moved again to address the company across the man as they stood silently next to the large man in his seat. If you didn't know better, the two figures could have very well been statues. Silently staring and judging from the shadows created by the dim candlelight.

    The Duke chuckled as his hand moved from his gestured state to the couple back to his chin as he continued to talk. "This is my son, Edgar Marinas." The duke boomed proudly.

    Victoryn raised an eyebrow, but dared not to question the Duke's words. He nodded, mulling over the words spoken as the man continued. "He will be your ward from now on. Teach him all you know and protect him. If you don't? Well...I'm sure you know what the consequences might be." The Duke chuckled as the woman's hands moved from the young man's shoulders, he stepped forward so Victoryn could see him better.

    A slight nod between the two was all that was exchanged before they were dismissed and ushered away to Victoryn's tower.

    Victoryn yawned as he shook the past memory from his mind. His fatigue must have been the reason for such thoughts. And of all the memories to revisit, why that one in particular?

    Looking up from his scroll to gaze at Mother Moon from his window, the man's silver glasses slid down his nose. Pushing them back up again with a huff, he frowned. A shuffling caught his attention as he turned. Edgar was already asleep at his desk, his candle just a few licks from burning out. Smirking again, the cleric stood from his stool and stretched. Slipping his own robes off of his shoulders, he draped them gently over the other man's back as he slumped awkwardly over the desk.

    Victoryn glanced at the man's scroll as his brows furrowed at the mistakes. Tsk tsk tsk. His tongue clicked as he took his own quill out of a nearby inkwell and mended the scripture with just a few flicks of ink. So close, he was. Just pride swelled in his chest at his student's progress. It had taken him years to recite such a verse and yet, Edgar was literally preforming in his sleep. Victoryn stopped and took a step back from the desk, alarmed at his actions and at his thoughts. Tossing the quill aside, he ripped his glasses from his face and shoved them into his breast pocket of his shirt.

    "Easy, mustn't get too attached now..." He spoke lowly to himself as he turned away from the other young man sleeping at the desk. Retreating into the dark sanctuary of his tower, Victoryn's light blue eyes seemingly glowed as he used in the moonlight as the elf turned to his bedchamber. "Never forget..." He finished, gritting his teeth as he bid goodnight to Mother Moon as he slipped into bed. Not even bothering to change. He shall have time before his journey to Hamel. For now...he must rest. Even if that was seemingly impossible for the man.
