Gauss

Maxwell doesn't remember his tribal name, and in fact most of his life before the age of 15 is a blur. He was raised to be a hunter and warrior, to provide for his tribe and protect them from invasion. But when he was on a hunt, a group of slavers ambushed and captured him. Only later did he discover that his entire tribe was captured and sold in a mass raid.

When Maxwell was captured, he was given a new name and then sold to a rather unscrupulous mage. He was subjected to experiments in an effort to turn him into some sort of ultimate warrior. The pain of the experiments and the attempts at brainwashing him caused him to forget most of his life in the tribe. But the experiment didn't work properly. He was left with lightning-fast speed and reflexes and the power to shoot electricity-like magic from his body, but he could not turn it off and anyone who touched him would receive a deadly shock. Water was now harmful to him as well. In an effort to control him, he was fitted with a special collar that repressed most of his power, though enough remained that his touch still caused pain.

For years he was made to fight in the Gladiatorial Arena at the Golden Tether. He was passed from owner to owner. His original owner vanished and he did not see him again. He trained hard. He built his physique up. Eventually he started to win more and more of his matches. The day came when he had earned enough victories that he was given his freedom. By this time, he'd been given a new name, Gauss, a reference to his electric-touch. He could not find the ones who experimented him, and he didn't know where his tribe was, so he took up residence at the Tether as a trainer. Even when it changed hands, he remained in his hut near the arena.

In the years that followed, he studied meditation and martial arts. He learned that with effort he could control his power, turn it off or even make it cause pleasure. He still kept the collar on, though, as a precaution in case he ever lost control.
