    Cheris was born a chomer but she is capable of shapeshifting like the humans of her world can. Animals with this ability are both revered and outcast for their abilities. Cheris decided herself to leave her original pack and became a wanderer. She travels long distances in search of things that interest her; books, artwork, tools, etc. She temporarily packs with friendly people and animals that she meets but has a habit of wandering off without warning or an explanation of where she's going.

    The hill that was Cheris mane blocked Foiar from seeing the path ahead. Like the rest of the forest it was a dirt path. Moss and small plants made their bed in it, but something else lie ahead… something unnatural.

    Cheris raised her tail. If that didn’t tell Foiar to stop then the chomer’s immovable body would. Neither creature could go any farther because one step ahead of them was an object. It was a circle of metal teeth. A human made trap that would bite the paw of an animal like the jaws of an alligator.

    A furry quadruped like Cheris should have been alarmed by the trap but she wasn’t, because she put it there. Typically she walked around or over the traps she set, but this time she was escorting a friend. She had no way to quickly explain what the trap was or how it worked, so instead she opted to disarm it.

    A stick was resting horizontally just before the trap. It was too convenient, so Cheris must have placed it here for exactly this reason. Dropping the comet piece, Cheris grabbed the stick as close to the end as she could. Then she stuck the other end into the trap. The stick pushed the trigger and the metal teeth snapped shut! It didn’t break the stick but it did leave more marks in the already “trap chewed” limb.
