  • Summary:

    Songdragons are a small species of feathered dragons. They are very skittish and hide in groups. They are able to sing to calm people, but are not able to calm someone if they are feeling very strong emotions. Touching them has the same effect.

  • Physical description

    Songdragons are a very small species of dragons, with pureblooded dragons only standing up to a person's knee at the head, while a half-blooded songdragon's shoulder will come to the bottom of a person's knee. They have a long neck, body and tail, and short legs, which gives their body a slightly weiner dog-like appearance. They have feathered ears and a mouse-like face, with a small mouth. Their mouth has mostly rounded teeth, except for two sets of sharp teeth on their top jaw and one set on the bottom. Their feathers are usually a soft pink, but can occasionally be a soft red, orange, blue or purple. Their feathers are very smooth and feel almost like a ribbon when smoothed down. They can puff up the feathers of their face, neck and ears when scared.

  • Abilities of Songdragons

    • Abilities: Soothing Voice, Calming Touch, Peace-bringing Feathers
    • Soothing Voice: When a songdragon sings, their voice has a calming effect. It lowers heart rate, relaxes muscles and slows someone's mind, and can make people slightly sleepy depending on the person. They can choose to have this effect, so their voice does not always have the effect. Full-blooded songdragons can always do these effects, but half-blooded songdragons will not be able to calm someone if they are already feeling a very strong emotion.
    • Calming Touch: This is very similar to Soothing Voice in effects, calming a person's body and mind, and making some sleepy. It has the same limitations on species depending on if the songdragon is half-blooded or not.
    • Peace-bringing Feathers: When a songdragon has died or its feathers are plucked, its feathers slowly release the effects of Soothing voice. Contact and sound is not needed to feel the effects of it, and one only needs to be near the feathers. The effect is lessened to about one-third of its effect when a person is awake, but when someone is asleep, their mind is open to intake of the powers, and they will be calmed if a feather is near them. The magic in the feathers dissipates about 2-3 weeks after being plucked.

  • History of Songdragons

    Songdragons are a fairly old species, originally living in North America. They lived more openly and much more like other group animals, hunting mice and small birds in the open and eating in trees (being omnivorous). When the calming effects of them were learned of by Natives, the bodies of the songdragons that had died naturally were sought after and taken for their feathers, to make into dreamcatchers. The dragons were never actively hunted at this time.

    When white people came to the land and they were taught of the effects of the dragons, the hunting began. Most of the songdragons were killed off to make things such as pillows to help people sleep, jewellery, and clothes decorations from their feathers, along with occasional jewellery made by preserving their eyes. The killing of the dragons had led to multiple generations of hiding, until it was believed they were extinct. Even after the hunting parties stopped, because they were taught to live like that, future generations of songdragons rarely came out from their hiding places, only to eat and drink.
