  • Description

    Vahn is a moderately-tall elven male, lean of figure, a bit thin of face. Red hair pulled back in a tight ponytail, it would be roughly shoulder-length when undone. A faint patch of red grows upon his chin, thin and a bit patchy; he never was good at growing facial hair. Golden irises settle below thin red eyebrows, perched atop high cheekbones. Dominating either side of his head were a pair of lengthy ears, longer than a human hand and swept back, spearing through his hair light a pair of skin-colored knives.

    Adorning his body is a suit of reinforced leather, specially treated and double-layered to provide extra protection at his shoulders, chest, groin and thighs. Straps holding the leather together are decorated with small pouches and pockets, some filled with vials of different colored liquid, others containing packets of components often used in arcane rituals. A heavy satchel rests at his lower back, secured by the thick black-leather belt wrapped about his waist. On his right hip rests a longsword, well-crafted and clean, hilt in the shape of a crow with wings extended, blade emerging from the mouth of the polished-bronze bird. Heavy boots wrap up the light-armored ensemble, dark leather with brass plates along the sides and over the toes, etched with the occasional rune.

    When without armor, he opts to wear light, breezy clothing, often a well-made linen tunic and a matching pair of breeches, waist cinched by the black-leather belt and leg openings tucked into the heavy plated boots. Resting just under his tunic, often visible about his neck or below the loose linen strings cinching the neckline closed, rests a golden chain, thin and delicate, with a small golden amulet in the shape of a scarab beetle. Emerald gemstones set in for the eyes, with finely carved sigils and runestones, not the same handwriting style as the others on his person, adorn the entirety of the amulet, along its rim and completely underneath. In the center on the underside of the amulet lies a small message in the Common tongue: "To help restore what was stolen. - JS".

  • Going Renegade

    Inspired by a piece of unearthed arcana allegedly pulled from an alternate reality where magic didn't exist, Vahn began to tinker with his mechanical creations with a bit more fervor. He delved into a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of force and material and drew upon his experiences in the field and of understanding new beings he's encountered called 'living constructs'. The result has been a repurposing of his metamagic rod, transforming the materials into a gauntlet of brass, wood, arcane stone and specially-placed crystals. To bring the final touches to the new piece of hardware, Vahn needed to embed a personal component, something of his body. This required the sacrifice of his right forearm.

    Replacing his arm from elbow to fingertips, the gauntlet looks humanoid in appearance: four fingers, one thumb, a palm, wrist, and the forearm itself. Brass plating offers modest protection from physical abrasion, and soft brushed leather pads line the interior of his hand, allowing for a delicate touch. The center of his palm contained a large, flat, polished focusing crystal, ringed in gilded brass and etched with numerous runes for arcane control. Runes and sigils run the length of the gauntlet, mostly emphasizing stability, protection, order and magic, with several etched in over time for more niche purposes. Heavy leather straps connect the gauntlet to the stump of his right arm, and small cables intersect with implants in his veins, ensuring his life force would flow through the implement despite its inanimate status.

    For him, it feels like a normal hand, and provides a far more refined tool to aid him in furthering his research.

    For others, it was either a work of art, an example of brilliant arcanotechnics, or a perversion of the sanctity of an unblemished body.
