Eleanor was the third child of a fairly prominent noble family. As she was very, very unlikely to ever inherit any land or appreciable wealth, she was sent off to bardic college from a fairly young age. While in the college, Eleanor realized that her musical skill was decidedly mediocre; she learned instruments to satisfy college requirements, but that's as far as her talents went. However, she spent hours in the library, devouring stories about far off lands, epic heroes, and biographies of as many people as she can find, great or mundane.

She eventually arrived at a conclusion: great stories are made by people who experience life, not people who cloister themselves in a college and read stories. So, she's decided to travel the world and see where life takes her.
