The Alarie Twins

The twins have no idea who their parents are, where they came from or whether they have any family left. Most of the time, they don't care. They have each other and the few precious friends they've made along the way, and that is enough.

Their time at the orphanage was not as sunny. They were almost starved to death, the cleanliness of the place was outrageous even by poor standards, and the warden was a useless drunk. But this meant that the children could move in and out as they pleased as long as the warden wasn't awake. And when the twins discovered their respective talents, not only did they see a way out of their plight, but found a way to survive off more than the scraps that the orphanage gave them.

They found agents who were willing to give them some kind of work; errands to run in the office, non-field work for agents who required something, and eventually even small tasks with sources or death glows. But never an actual ghost. Until they were officially hired as agents, anyway.
