  • Mistveil the Ancient

    An entity of deadly smoke. While Death himself was born from the first life to die in this universe, Mistveil was born from the fire and smoke that consumed the lives of the first forms of life that could die to it. The first fires that could take life that bellowed smoke, that formed Mistveil.

    Mistveil works in opposition to Death, but not in the form of maintaining life. No, instead while Death, the Grim Reaper, lives to lead souls to their afterlife, or to their reincarnation, Mistveil instead collects souls and hoards them, keeping them vaulted and stashed. He has no important role of balance to the universe that Death does, you could consider his collection of souls a hobby he enacts. Despite Death and Mistveil working in opposition, and viewing each other as enemies, Mistveil's actions have no real dire consequences on the balance of life and death, thus while they have butted heads many times before there has been no reason to strike down Mistveil's whole operation. Some may view his practices as unethical, but in the grand scheme of the universe it is rather harmless to the balance.

  • Powers and Abilities

    Being such an ancient being Mistveil is incredibly powerful, perhaps almost as strong as Death themself, at least strong enough to stand up to the grim reaper, despite his reluctance to do so if he can avoid it.

    Mistveil is a being of ash and smoke, he can change and shift his form at will and has no real permanent true form, this business suit form he'd taken is more of a recent chosen look. As such he can choose how corporeal his form is, whether he can be easily touched and interacted with or if he's as hard to touch as real inanimate smoke.

    He can fill a room with a thick deadly smog that can choke out mortal and soul alike, and while a soul might not be capable of dying it can absolutely be put out of commission.

    Aside from physical strength he has incredible magic resistance where it's nigh impossible to harm him with magic save for some few exceptions depending on the magic used.

    Though he seldom uses it, he can warp and twist the minds of mortals and mortal souls, altering their souls to grant them power and to do his bidding. He can corrupt the bodies of mortals and outright twist the physical appearance of mortal souls. This is also the same ability he uses on the low value souls of plants and simple animals to create Soul Tokens.

    Due to being an ancient and not a powerful soul such as his collectors, he's nigh immune to the effects of a reaper's weapon. Though they may be able to make contact with his body their reaping abilities have no effect on him. Though any special offensive powers these weapons have might still work on him so long as those powers are offensive ones and not geared towards reaping a soul.

    Mistveil can exist in any realm, he can effortlessly move between the mortal world and spirit realm, he can see into and interact within the limbo between the worlds. However any realm sealed off from these worlds that were exclusively cut off from him by a being of comparable power, such as Death, are inaccessible to him. Someone of exceptional power or a comparably powerful ritual performed by a number of powerful mortals may be able to create a barrier of entry that he cannot pass through.
