Carrie Mae Vance

Carrie Mae is a smart, educated woman. The type of smart, educated woman who knows knowledge is power, and the importance of playing dumb. “You can’t show ‘em your cards too early, darlin’,” her mama would say.

Her daddy taught her well; to read and write, to calculate equations, to structure a solid debate and source an essay. Her mama taught her about how to wield the power of knowledge and how to veil it in delicate lace and rosy rouge.

“I know you know what that means, darlin’, but you’re s’posed to ask him to explain it t’you,” her mama instructed. “When you bat those pretty ol’ eyes of yours, an’ ask what that means, he’s goin’a think he’s got the leg up on you. An’ you let him think that, then he’ll never see you comin’ when you give’im the big wammy!”

Carrie presents as the typically pleasant Southern belle. She is beyond charming, and almost too easy to get along with. She is sociable, caring and understanding. She remembers details about folks, and truly seems to heed them. She’ll diligently ask, “oh, how’s Barbara doing?” or “did Tommy end up enjoying the baseball camp last summer?” It is almost as if the woman uses information like fuel, she is ravenous for the details to store away for later use.

“You feel your emotions very intensely, baby. You’re jus’ passionate, is all,” her mama would state. “Nothin’ wrong about it!”

“You are dramatic,” her daddy, and a few love interests have claimed. “Don’t be a baby.”

This is to say that Carrie’s emotions tend to swing to far ends of the spectrum. She is liable to express fervid rage, euphorically manic happiness or heart wrenching sorrow. She feels, and she feels deeply.

Carrie is like a chilled glass of sweet tea with a wedge of lemon on a sweltering summer’s day, or a cup of chamomile tea with honey on a crisp winter’s night. She is cozy and comforting. She is disarming.

Carrie is a petite woman, mousy in stature almost. A sweet little thing with long, shapely legs stemmin’ from the round curve of her ample hips.

She has lengthy, voluminous and delightfully shiny hair, the color of sunshine.

Her cheeks are rosy pink, her nose slender and ending in an adorable button shape, and her plump lips always glisten with gloss. There’s an appealing little gap between her two front, and otherwise perfectly aligned teeth, giving her a child-like innocence to her appearance.

Her steel blue eyes are large and round, “like globes,” mama would say, “I can see the whole world in those eyes, darlin’!”. They exude kindness, and threaten to absorb the beholder in their watery depths.

The warm scent of peonies and vanilla cling to her creamy skin.

She speaks with an endearing southern twang.
