Pufferfish Pirates

From a young age, Johnny had a rough life, his mother died shortly after he was born, his father was a drunkard, and he never had any friends in nor out of school. Though his father was a drunkard, he was really the only person who cared about Johnny, even if his words were behind a drunken slurred voice. However, by the time Johnny was fourteen, his father died of natural causes, and he was handed to his other family, who did not care for him and planned to put him up for adoption, Johnny found out about this, and did not enjoy this news, running off presumably to never return.
Orphaned, homeless, and depressed, Johnny wondered what he did to deserve such a life. He got by on freelance gigs and generous donations from strangers passing by.
Once reaching eighteen Johnny had saved up quite an impressive amount of money for his situation he started in, he had a pretty decent handle on things at that point. One evening, Johnny was walking about, running small errands for himself, as he walked on the sidewalk, a grocery bag filled with various items inside, he noticed someone in a small alleyway, taking a closer inspection, he moved toward them, before realising it was a young girl, mumbling sadly to herself. Johnny aproached the child, asking them some small questions before comforting them. The girl was orphaned, like Johnny was, she told him both of her parents died in a car crash. Johnny, hearing this, sighed to himself, after a couple more back and forth talking, Johnny asked if the girl wanted to come with him, telling her he has a small apartment, but would happily have his room upgraded to have two bedrooms in order for her to stay. Of course, as anyone would, the girl was skeptical at first, but after some thought, she reluctantly agreed.
After a walk, the girl revealed to Johnny her name, May.

Skipping ten years later, Technology had increased a decent bit, and Johnny had been saving up most of his fortune. With his amassed money, he bought a decently sized ship, the ship was whale themed, with the hull of the ship looking like the underbelly of a whale, the sails resembling splashing water, two large automated oars spread from the side of the ship that resembled two large fins of the whale.
With the ship, he needed a crew, putting up posters around the nearby city, a few people joined.. but they were mostly people down on their luck, or criminals looking for an escape. With the crew, ship, everything was set, Johnny sailed off.
But what was his plan exactly? Well, while also helping those in need every now and then, they werent exactly law-abiding, they stole every now and then, and even murdered sometimes. But despite this, their fortune increased, and they gain an massive reputation, however, a mixed one.
As time passed, he gained more followers to his crew, and they set their sights for new heights.. what these heights were, well, guess we'll have to see..
