Nydia Goodwin

Knowledge is power, so the saying goes, and Nydia always believed it growing up. She came up in a small town; her parents were both hard workers (her dad a machinist, her mom a teacher) and she had four brothers who all took care of the "baby" of the family.

Money was tight with that many kids, and Nydia didn't want to end up in extreme debt for student loans, so she ended up joining the Navy out of High School. She did five years on active duty, getting to see numerous different locales and have mini-adventures as part of that, then went to school when she was finished She'd always been bookish and got her Masters in Library Science and a minor in Archeology. She began to interview and was hired by a historic Carnegie Library as an Assistant Archivist, much to her excitement. It involved moving to a larger city, which was difficult, but Nydia decided to give it a go.

She'd loaded up her car, bid her family goodbye, and set off on the road. That's when the storm hit. She'd ended up on some rural road in the middle of nowhere, her phone's mapping app on the fritz, when the rain had begun coming down. She was debating whether to turn around or keep going, unsure which was safer, before deciding on the latter. It was one of the most frightening things she'd ever gone through and Nydia was sure her car was going to be flipped or sucked up into a tornado, with how bad the wind was getting. When it finally began to clear, she saw the sign; "Welcome to Crow's Hollow".

Nydia is an idealistic woman with a small-town mentality. She enjoys helping people find what they're looking for, or learn new ideas, even when she perhaps shouldn't. She's also as curious as a cat; Nydia can't leave a mystery alone when she suspects there's more beneath the surface. Suffice it to say, she's read all the Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes stories.

She's soft-spoken, observant, and methodical. Her attention to detail and calm presence are those of someone used to quiet spaces. Nydia is empathetic and patient, but there's a restlessness beneath it. She's always wondered if the world is "layered", if she was only seeing the surface of a larger ocean. How little she knew before now. Nydia isn't a damsel in distress. She can handle herself if need be and one shouldn't mistake an introverted, quiet demeanor for being shy. Growing up with her brothers, and her time in the Navy, has left her more "rough and tumble" than appearances would suggest.

Nydia's skillset relies primarily in research and archival science, she's also skilled at linguistics and paleography. She has a strong memory for details, and above all else, she's persistent. Once she gets her teeth into a mystery, she doesn't like to let it go. Anomalies are puzzles to be solved. Learning that monsters are real is terrifying... and fascinating.
