  Actuation (推動) of every physical process of the animal, non-animal, human, and non-human body, especially the circulation of every bodily fluid, as blood, in the bodily vessels.

  Warming (溫煦) of the body, particularly the limbs, hands, and feet.

  Defense (防御) against the Six Pernicious Influences (or, the Six Excesses as detailed below).

  Containment (固攝) of all bodily fluids; to keep blood, urine, sweat, semen, mucus, or tears, from leaking, or excessive emission.

  Transformation (氣化) of food, drink, and breath into qi (life force), xue (blood), jinye (fluids), or the transformation of all into another.

  Wind (风) categorizes the Rapid Onset of Symptoms, wandering location of symptoms, itching, nasal congestion, "floating" pulse, tremor, paralysis, convulsion.

  Cold (寒) categorizes sensations of cold; aversion to cold; relief of symptoms by warmth; clear or watery excreta (waste matter); severe pain; pain of the abdomen; contracture or hypertonicity of muscles; slimy tongue or white tongue; deep, hidden, slow, or thread-like pulse.

  Fire/Heat (火) categorizes aversion to heat; high fever; extreme or persistent, recurring thirst; concentrated urine; red face, red tongue, yellow tongue; rapid pulse.

  Dampness (湿) categorizes sensations of heaviness; sensations of fullness; symptoms of dysfunction of the Spleen; greasy tongue; “slippery” or evasive pulse.

  Dryness (燥) categorizes dryness of cough, mouth, throat, lips, nose resulting in bleeding of the nose, dry skin, and dry stools.

  the Basic Principles of Pattern Discrimination:

  Exterior (表) refers to a disease manifesting in the superficial layers of the body, or the skin, hair, flesh, and meridians. Characterized by aversion to cold or wind, headache, muscle ache, mild fever, a "floating" pulse, and a normal tongue appearance.

  Interior (里) refers to disease manifestation in the zàng-fǔ, or to any disease that can not be considered Exterior. There are no generalized characteristic symptoms of Interior patterns, as they shall be determined by the affected zàng or fǔ entity.

  Cold (寒) is characterized by aversion to cold, absence of thirst, and a white tongue.

  Heat (热) is characterized by absence of aversion to cold, a red and painful throat, a dry tongue and a rapid and floating pulse.

  Vacuity (虚) is often referred to as "deficiency" and can be further differentiated into vacuity of qi, xuě, yin and yang, with all their respective characteristic symptoms. Yin vacuity can also be termed "vacuity-heat", while yang vacuity is equivalent to "vacuity-cold".

  Repletion (实), or "Excess", generally refers to any disease that can not be identified as a vacuity pattern, and usually indicates the presence of one of the Six Excesses or a pattern of stagnation (of qi, xuě, et cetera).
  
  and the Five Diagnostic Methods:

  Inspection focuses on the face and particularly on the tongue, including analysis of the tongue size, shape, tension, color and coating, and the absence or presence of teeth marks around the edge.

  Auscultation refers to listening for particular sounds (such as wheezing, murmurs, or gurgling).

  Olfaction refers to attending to body odor.

  Inquiry focuses on the "Seven Inquiries", which involve asking the patient about the regularity, severity, or other characteristics of:

  chills

  fever

  perspiration

  appetite

  thirst

  taste

  defecation

  urination

  pain

  sleep

  menses

  leukorrhea

  Palpation includes feeling the body for tenderness, palpation of the wrist pulses as well as various other pulses, and palpation of the abdomen.
  

  Fire Cupping involves soaking a cotton ball in 95% alcohol. The cotton is then clamped by a pair of forceps and lit via match or other source of flame. The flaming cotton ball is then, in one fluid motion, placed into the cup, quickly removed, and placed on the skin. By adding fire to the inside of the cup, oxygen is removed and a small amount of suction is created. Massage oil may be applied to create a better seal as well as allow the cups to glide over muscle groups (e.g. trapezius, erectors, latisimus dorsi, etc.) in an act called "moving cupping". Dark circles may appear where the cups were placed due to rupture of the capillaries just under the skin, but are not the same as a bruise caused by blunt-force trauma.

  Acupresure, similar in principle to Acupuncture, is based on the concept of life energy which flows through "meridians" in the body. In treatment, physical pressure is applied to trigger points with the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians. Pressure may be applied by hand, by elbow, or with various devices. Acupressure may be effective at helping manage nausea and vomiting, or for helping lower back pain.

  Massage Therapy: Tui na (推拿), Zhi Ya (指壓), deep-tissue, erotic, lymphatic drain, infant, postural integration, prostate, shiatsu (指圧), stone, Zoku Shin Do.

  Moxibustion is a traditional therapy using moxa made from dried mugwort. Moxa is used to warm regions and acupuncture points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi. It is believed that mugwort acts as an emmenagogue, meaning that it stimulates blood-flow in the pelvic area and uterus. It is claimed that moxibustion militates against Cold and Dampness in the body, and can serve to turn breech babies. Moxibustion can be especially effective in the treatment of the strength deficiences and chronic problems of aging.
