• Description

  Orpheas Ranger was a comedic young antelope. The fluffy, blue-haired fellow was never short on good humor, a smile or a joke. His fur was a light tan, accented by dark brown streaks and white patches. Able to use his magical abilities to keep his coat free of dirt, he was usually seen in some quiet part of the forest either playing, splashing around in one stream or other, chasing around and teasing wood nymphs, racing with wolves and rabbits, or building forts with beavers. Blessed with the gift of tongues, he can understand anything that conveys language of any kind, even insects and sometimes plants. His magic is based on manipulation of life energy using focus of both body and mind. Once the mind is honed in on the purpose, the body begins to feel the forces around. Once the body can feel the power of the forces required, it can then be manipulated with the correct movements and physical gestures. Basically mental focus + physical motion = environmental manipulation.

• Biography

  No one knows just how many Guardians there are spread over the land, but it is said that when one dies, two guardians are struck by an uncontrollable love that drives them together like high-powered magnets. The guardians' child is left in the wilderness after birth, left to survive under the tender care of nature.
  
  The spirit of each dead guardian dissolves into energy and knowledge, and can be summoned to aid living guardians in times of need. These spirits whisper knowledge to the growing newborns, instilling them with the magic abilities they need for their future, and making sure that they don't take on too much behavior from the animals that care for them.
  Orpheas Ranger was one such birth.
  
  But his parents loved him too much to leave him completely alone. He was given a bronze ring, instilled with most of each of their life-forces and sung over with many magical rituals, giving it the ability to grow and change with his finger, to regenerate its own energy slowy, to help heal him in times of dire need, to resist being worn by anyone except for him. A powerful ally. However, Orpheas' parents nearly killed themselves in the process, and were forced away by other guardians who came to their aid.
  
  Orpheas himself was passed around between bear dens, herds of deer, wolf packs, even an owl's nest over the course of his growing years, until he was able to walk and fend for himself. These animals, guided by the spirits of the guardians, each taught Orpheas what they could before passing him on. Eventually he began walking and traveling on his own, surpassing his animal counterparts, and constantly goaded and tugged by the voices that whispered great things into his mind.
  
  One night the world proved to be too intoxicating to grant him any rest, so he took his leisure by strutting a lush meadow, running fast to pull in the sights and smells and sounds, when a flash of light stopped him in his tracks. He beheld, out of the light, a beautiful standing wolf, her body wispy and insubstantial, but glowing with a lunar brilliance. In a voice like a flowing river, it explained to him his calling, his heratige, and his power. That day, the wolf gave him his gift of tongues, and from that point on he could communicate with any living creature.
  
  The silver, nebulous hand touched him in the center of his chest, and he felt a fridgid, cold sensation wash over his mind, then a firey wave of power smash through his veins. He could feel the earth, the rocks, the trees, the sand... and he could change them, mold them. "A great blessing requires great discipline, and a true heart" she murmured, before she dissolved away, leaving nothing but the night for him to converse with.
