• Description

  Catherine Cross, commonly referred to as Karen, is in her final year of middle school. She has a mother and a father who work hard and take care of their family, but her older brother Darren disappeared six months ago. He returned home three months after his disappearance but has been very distant since then. Most of the family pretends that he ran away and was depressed... but to Karen he just doesn't seem to be the same person.
  Since then she has spent more time reading and thinking and writing on her own. A long time ago she wanted to tell Darren about her special abilities, but the disappearance interrupted all of that. Ever since she was a child she had been able to see these small black bubbles with teeth and eyes. They were harmless, but they listened to everything she said. She called them the hexes. When she sent them after other people, they would either bring about good or bad luck. She suspected there was more that she could do, but her abilities had not yet been discovered.
  Karen is a young looking girl, often mistaken for being younger than her actual age. She has been helping her allies and jinxing her enemies for many years. She always felt there was more in the world to see, especially since her brother decided to run away. Karen hoped to find out more about the world around her.
