  Mathematics (Symbology): The study of the symbols behind the science. All of the sciences involve mathematics at varying levels; therefore ones skill with mathematics has a direct effect on all the sciences. Casting speed is the most noticeable effect of a high proficiency in this trait.
  
  Physics (Spacetime): Schimmel's specialty. The understanding of how matter moves using mathematics calculations on an underlying property called energy. Involves energy fields and the understanding of time flow. In a more magical sense the ability to manipulate the energy and, much less so, time.
  

  • Telekinesis - to move things using symbolic power.
  • Energy Manipulation - fire energy blasts, cause temperature changes, absorb incoming energy with friction.
  • Field (Force) Manipulation - distort gravity, control electricity and magnetism.
  • Wave Manipulation - A different form of energy manipulation that focuses on creating, destroying or changing wave energies such as mechanical waves like water or sound and electromagnetic waves like light.
  • Grasp Time - mostly uncontrollable; the ability to cause a perceivable drop in the flow of time allowing one to take longer to make decisions when available time is short.

  
  Chemistry (Alchemy): A science involving the nature of matter at the smallest levels. All matter is an emergent property based on its collection of base parts called 'elements'. The ability here is to recognize what matter is made of and to be able to combine or separate different collections of matter and know what the outcome will be.
  

  • Mixing - Combine matter for various effects. Some effects could be: poison, sleep, silence, weakness, petrification, and many other things as well as counter-effects to these. Some matter can cause itself to freeze upon mixing, or even explode.
  • Separation - Mainly used as a method for obtaining pure materials from raw ore such as copper, iron, silver, etc.
  • Blacksmithing - Knowledge of solid material in the use of clothes, equipment and weapons as well as the ability to create these.

  
  Biology (Healing): The knowledge of life at both a macroscopic scale and microscopic scale. Useful for knowing how to treat wounds and where enemy weak points are. As can be seen from the visual above, one of the sciences Schimmel has a great deal of trouble with.
  

  • Healing - The ability to seal wounds, or in the most advanced users reattach limbs, along with treating internal damage using symbolic energy. May also act as a painkiller for such injuries.
  • Weak Points - The knowledge of the world's creatures and their internal structure enough to know where to strike to cause the most damage with the least effort.

  
  Engineering: Schimmel is not much better at this than biology. The knowledge and ability to build complex and useful structures out of available materials and using a combined understanding of the other sciences.
  
  Psychology (Sympathy/Trickery): The ability to truly understand another person further than just listening to their words. Searching for a person's motives and secrets are within the realm of psychology. Understanding this leads to the power to choose what to do with this assumed knowledge of another person be it for good or evil. However, can often be erroneous in complex cases.
  
  Geology (Earth Science): The understanding of how our planet comes together as a whole. The land and rock formations and movement, the tidal patterns, wind patterns and meteorology as a whole falls under this category.
  
  Business (Bartering): The ability to appraise the worth of materials and judge what is a fair trade. Included in this category is the know-how to operate a retail or other business.
  
  Economics (Currency Flow): A more macroscopic understanding of where the currency of the world is located at any given point across countries, cities, towns, and even neighborhoods. The ability to track income and expenses and grasp the flow of the currency.
  
  Politics: The understanding of what makes a good leader and general knowledge of the current political situation of the world.
  
  History: Self-explanatory. Knowledge of the past. Particularly very well-recorded and important events.
  
  Philosophy: The ability to think deeply about the great questions of the universe.
  
  Education: To understand how others learn and the ability to convey information in a clear and concise way in order for others to completely understand the topic at hand.

  Schimmel's time at university was where many important points of his past arise. Enrolled in the physics program at Berkenz Institute for Science and Engineering he made it a point to prove himself to his professors. It was a very prestigious institute with many knowledgeable and powerful scholars. He managed to keep up with the program at just above an average level, at least as far as the academics were concerned. The programs put forth by the institution, at any institution that Schimmel was aware of, all involved not just the knowing of the material in the mind but the ability to apply it to its greatest effect outside of the school.
  
  The programs at the school all involved some level of academia, and some level of spell-casting know-how. A brief description of Schimmel's experience in the university can be summarized by learning what he learned... at least a little bit. (For this please refer to the Category Detail section)
