  Appearance: Fair skin, dark brown eyes, and straight, thick brown hair; once down to her shoulders when loosened, Thalia's hair was badly burned when escaping her burning city. She took a knife and cut off the burnt ends, figuring a boyish-cut better than struggling to braid back what remained of the original length. Thalia has a muscular build from years of training. She has a menagerie of small scars all over her body as a result of her training since childhood, but the most notable scars are seen across her nose - a short series of small contact burns - and right leg - the remains of a procedure to remove shrapnel. The latter scar is the most recent, and the injury does occasionally still give her pain when Thalia is on her feet for a long period of time.
  
  Thalia typically wears heavy layers of leather, chain maille and plate armor (though not a full suit), as well as a short cloak that she keeps tucked into a wide belt. Once a decorative symbol of her office, it is becoming quite worn out and ragged. There are many (sloppy, because Thalia is no seamstress) stitchmarks across it, sealing up past sword strikes and teas. A sword and sheath hang from her belt, and Thalia typically carries her halberd and shield. However, she can store both on her steed's saddle, if necessary.
  
  Personality: Hard-working and charismatic, Thalia is a headstrong leader who takes care of those under her command. She believes that respect must be earned, but she will show respect to her superiors in honor of their title, if not the person. Though she'll follow the law almost to the letter, Thalia recognizes that the law doesn't always benefit the right people, and has made it no secret that her moral code sides with those in need.
  
  Trained in combat because she lacked her parents' talents for healing and music, Thalia hides a bit of envy for those gifted in said arts. She doesn't speak much of her brothers, but when she does, its clear that she holds both them and their opinions in high regard.
  
  Biography: Born to a musician and a mage, Thalia was the youngest of three, raised in the outer circle of the towering Crystal City of Kesja. Her older brothers both left home when she was still a child, one becoming a traveling bard, like their father, and the other following in their mother's magical footsteps, and leaving the city to find his own life. Their younger sister had her heart set on another career - the City Guard.
  
  Future-sighted even as a child, Thalia only ever had one close friend - Velan Rederik, the son of two local farmers who never possessed his parents' green thumb. For the first ten years, they were just friends. Then, when adolescence arrived, they became a little more. Thalia still wanted to join the City Guard, and rather than dissuade her, Velan promised to wait. But when Thalia finally completed her three years of training, Velan had disappeared.
  
  She rose through the ranks over the next seven years, and became the Captain of the Guard when her predecessor and sponsor retired from the position. For another ten years, Thalia led the City Guard in an era of relative peace and stability. Then, ten years to the day of her promotion, a mysterious figure arrived in the city. A wielder of powerful black magics, the figure demanded the city's loyalty, as Kesja had the most powerful authoritative enforcement of its region. The city Chancellor turned to Thalia for advice, and Thalia, believing that one man - magical or no - would never be enough to take the city, shrugged off the stranger's demands.
  
  That very night, a blazing inferno engulfed the city. Those in the outer and mid circles were able to evacuate, but the poor souls who lived in the centre and inner circle were trapped by the denizens of the Plane of Fire that seemed to walk from the flames themselves. Thalia led the remains of the City Guard in herding the survivors away from the flames, and then she herself ordered them all to trek to the nearest town - a day and night's journey away, but a safe haven.
  
  Thalia herself ran back into the flames, braving the creatures of fire long enough to reach her former home. She found it ablaze, but empty. She ran inside long enough to rescue one precious item - a rosary her mother had made her as a child - that had been left there for safe keeping. Unable to find the bodies of her parents, Thalia assumed they had escaped with the rest of the refugees, and fled the city herself.
  
  She reached nearby Iascatown a half day behind the rest, and searched until nightfall for her parents. But they weren't among the refugees either. Believing herself to have failed her family, her city, and her fellows, Thalia handed command of the Guard (or what was left of them) to her second in command, the elf Reif, found her horse, and set out on her own quest to find the figure who cursed her city.
  
  Weapon(s): A one-handed sword, a tower shield bearing the crest of the Crystal City, and the Elemental Halberd of Aloun.
  
  Once every twenty four hours, the Elemental Halberd can 'sample' an element and create with that element a golem, which is controlled by the halberd's user. The magic must be activated (and ended) with a spell word, and the drawbacks are that if the user's body is harmed while they are controlling the golem, the magic will be instantly broken, and the user will be knocked unconscious. Even if the user is not harmed while in control of the golem, after the spell is ended, the user will still suffer painful headaches and debilitating fatigue for at least one hour after using the halberd.
  
  Item(s): A scorched rosary made of iron and petrified wood. It was a gift from Thalia's mother, and it was one of the few things she managed to salvage when fleeing the city. She wears it tied to her belt, as a constant reminder of what she's fighting for.
  
  Strengths: A devotion to doing what's right, and a near-refusal to turn down a proposal for help.
  
  Weaknesses: Severe arachniphobia - even small spiders make Thalia uncomfortable, and any arachnid larger than her fingernail will meet an overreactive death. In the wake of her city's near-destruction, Thalia has developed PTSD, but refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem. Fire will still trigger flashbacks, and she will get lost in the memory of she stares into even a torch for too long.
  
  Extra: Thalia's warhorse, Barda, was a gift of thanks from a lord in a neighboring kingdom. Smarter than the average horse and with bit of a mean sense of humor, he is not a normal animal, and Thalia never got a clear answer about what kind of creature Barda actually was. But he has so far proven to be very loyal to his rider, and that is enough for Thalia.
