• Description

  Physical Description
  
  Standing at a height that dwarfs many humans, and other species. Aurix could be seen as a tall, if imposing creature. Covered in lustrous scales with a mixture of browns, reds, and autumn colors, Aurix can be seen as quite a beautiful creature to behold. These scales often give off a slight sheen, because of the oil that he uses to prevent the scales from chipping or cracking. In fact, the scales are quite soft to the touch. Much like soft leather, than hard keratinous scales.The scales along his neck, chest, belly, and all the way down the underside of his tail is a creamy color, and covered with scaly bands which overlap, and slide easily against each other. With a medium-athletic build, Aurix could be seen as handsome by some, or a monstrosity by others. It’s all in the eye of the beholder.
  
  His head is perhaps the first thing that one might notice upon seeing Aurix for the first time. Perhaps one of the most noticeable features is the short, tapered and blunted muzzle, with two nostrils flush against the rostrum. His lips are thin, are can be finely articulated for the scales covering them are quite miniscule. Over which, they cover his teeth which consist of multiple incisors to the front, with longer, more dragon-like canines just behind them, before his molars begin to show. His lips do not initially allow for his mouth to open all the way, though if peeled back into a growl, or a grimace, the angle at which his jaws can open increases. This can lend him to be quite terrifying when he wants to be. His tongue is broad and tapered, the edges of which rise up to create a channel in the middle. Underneath the tongue is an opening to a gland in the bottom of the mouth, by which he can expel a jet of flammable liquid.
  
  Continuing up his face, from his muzzle one would find two eyes angled forward and slightly set into either side of his tapered skull. The eyes offer no visible sclera, instead having bluish-green irises, with large dilating pupils. Sometimes, people have mentioned that when he stares at them, it’s as if he’s gazing into their very being. Continuing up along his more streamlined head, his forehead gracefully curves into the top of his head and down the sides to the base of the jaws, and slightly behind, where two half-cylindrical ears are backswept in line with his skull. The ears are mobile, and can even somewhat flare and close depending on the situation. Just ahead of them, along the jawline is a retractable, webbed frill. Just above and behind the ears too, are a couple of short backswept horns, which are about two and a half feet long.
  
  In the center of the top of his head, begins a feathered crest, which is often retracted and pressed flat against his head. But they help express the emotions he is feeling at certain times. Fully raised could mean that he’s interested, aroused, or angry, while at half raised it could mean he’s annoyed, or upset. The feathers are a crimson red, and very soft to the touch.
  
  Continuing down along his neck, the flesh between the underside of his jaw, to his neck is fairly loose, but not overly so. There is a tightness to it, but it doesn’t readily reveal his adam’s apple, until he looked directly upwards. Plated bands run down his neck, and down his chest, and belly. Few muscles are left visible underneath these bands, but a human-like musculature can be seen if only vaguely. His shoulders are covered in larger, interlocking scales, which slowly reduce in size the further down his arms one looks. The outer parts of his hands are fingers are covered in small plated bands, while the underside of his fingers and his palms are covered in fine scales. Each finger ends in a short, blunt claw.
  
  On his back, and just below his shoulders sprouts two large bat-like wings. Over the years, the membranes have to torn or shredded, with scars marking where they had been damaged. Along the outer edges, a few nicks here and there can be seen. When folded, the wings at their highest, give him a height of 6’5’’. When unfurled, they can expand to give him an approximate wingspan of thirteen feet.
  
  Continuing down along his back, one would see the tail which sprouts from his backside. There isn’t a buttocks in the human sense of the word, instead the cheeks of what would be the buttocks, has skin which grows flush with the tail. The tail then continues out from its thick back, tapering to a tip at a length of three and a half feet long. At the end of his tail is a collection of red feathers, creating a small tuft of them.
  
  His legs are extend down from his hips, with no visible genitalia between them. The front and sides of his digitigrade legs are covered by large scaly bands, while the inner parts are covered by more sensitive, smaller scales. His legs are in fact semi-digitgrade. The shin is a bit longer than what would be seen in most digitigrade creatures, but the ankle is definitely elongated, and becomes part of the leg. Three large toes complete the ‘foot’, each ending in a long, curved blunt claw.
  
  Attire
  
  Aurix wears a few different types of clothes depending on the occasion, or he might not wear any at all. It all depends on the needs of the situations, and how casual he can be. When he does wear clothes, the most common attire he can be seen wearing is a blue and white tunic, with similarly colored leggings. On the last shoulder, and running down the sleeve is a red stripe, marking him as a lieutenant of the Vanguard. Often anywhere he goes he is wearing the colors of the Order. On his hands and feet, he often wears gloves of a sort. Since he requires the use of his toes to walk, he required a more flexible type of footwear. The glove-like boots on his feet are fur lined to keep him warm in the winter, though sometimes warmer clothes are required.
  
  For times when he expects combat, a suit of custom fitted three-quarter plate armor is donned. The armor was specifically designed for his unique body structure, namely the wings on his back. Like most suits of armor like this, and his especially, he requires the assistance of another to put it on. It covers its upper body is segmented plates, and down to his elbows and knees, and even half way down the top of his tail. For his forearms, he wears bracers, and for the shins he wears greaves. Completing the set is an open faced helmet, fitted for his ears, and horns.
  
  Aurix’s Sword, ‘Dulamath’
  
  Often carried at his side, is a hand and a half sword. Made of a very fine crucible steel, a weapon that had been in his father’s family for generations. Dulamath is about four feet long in total, with a 3 ½ foot long blade. Engraved into the blade near the base where it’s thickest reads the name ‘Dulamath’, the name of the ancestor who first wielded the blade two centuries prior. Not a chip, scratch, or even bit of rust mars the sword. It would dishonor the family to allow the sword to blemish to anything but battle. Kept well oiled and polished for the generations yet to wield the magnificent blade.
  
  The blade is for the most part unadorned with anything. However, a fully runs the length of the blade, stopping just about three inches from the tapered tip of the sword. The blade is blunted about two and a half inches up the base, allowing one’s finger to grip the sword in a more controlled grasp. The pommel however, is built in a similar way to any crossguard. But the crossguard is ornamentally forged into the likeness of a dragon’s head, and a gryphon’s head. Multiple sockets for gems run along the crossguard, and the wooden pommel, waiting to be filled by the successive generations. In the pommel is a small ruby, while in the eyes of the dragon is a emerald, and a sapphire. One eye of the gryphon is filled in with an amethyst, and the other by a topaz piece. Only two others slots had been filled by the time Aurix got his hands on it, one by an obsidian piece, and one with quartz.
  
  Magic
  
  First and foremost, Aurix is what one would called a sorcerer from his lands. A sorcerer is any individual who is born with the innate control, and ability to project a single or more elements. Usually the average is just one, but two, even three though rare is not unheard of. Because of Sidhe blood in his ancestry, Aurix was born with the ability to command three elements. That of air, fire and force. Though he commands all three elements, as a sorcerer he only has so much power in him. Though his power is regained quickly, he like many other sorcerers cannot perform huge feats of power all at once. For while power quickly recharges, the maximum pool of power is actually fairly small. Killing a single man, or blasting down a door is fairly simple, and could be done all day long if done one at a time. But larger acts of magic require more power than any sorcerer can provide. If the sorcerer were to try to destroy, or kill even five foes at a time, it would have drastic consequences. Often times fatal ones for the sorcerer.
  
  Although being a sorcerer is not his only method for magic. Often carried with him is a large tome, or grimoire. Carried by a leather strap, this large, leather backed vellum book is a book of spells for a magician. Weaved in the arcane language, a magician draws his power from the world via a ritual in which he channels the Ley of the world like a conduit. Althought time consuming compared to the quick, innate magic of a sorcerer. A magician can be anyone, from all walks of life. Magicians have far more control over their craft than that of sorcerers, and their power is limited only by the maximum amount of power that their bodies can hold. Blasting down a portcullis with a force of kinetic energy, or melting the bars with an electrical discharge is within the power of a magician. However, it just takes much more time for them to perform such deeds.
  
  Personality
  
  Aurix views himself as a driven individual. He admires and respects the friends he had around him, and even those he considers enemies are respected, though at the tip of a sword, or a curt remark. Seeking to prove himself in the eyes of his friends, Aurix often does brash things that endangers not only himself, but sometimes those around him. In his mind, he also has a healthy interest in those of the opposite gender, but those of the same gender may catch his eye as well. Though his preference is for females. He enjoys to party, and having a good time with friends and allies. Fiercely loyal his friends, he would go into the flames of the abyss to rescue them.
  
  To others, Aurix can be boastful if a bit direct in his approach towards others. Gaining his trust is difficult, or circumstantial. Making it hard to get on his good side, unless you’re of a particular variety. Many see him as a dragon lover, which could be expected of the half breed, is almost unhealthy for him, or those around him. At parties, others see him as reserved. Never drinking much, or entering into drinking games. Though other games of skill, or strategy are quite fun with him as an opponent. Some fear him because of his nature as both a dragon, even a half blooded one, and his magic. Though everyone would agree to his unwavering loyalty.

• Biography

  Aurix was raised by his two parents, an autumn scaled dragoness by the name of Fartheresa, and his half human, half sidhe father, Richard Erastu. They were always viewed as a strange couple, though generally accepted by their peers. Aurix hatched from an egg, and was born larger than children born from human parents. His intellect too, for he was speaking far sooner than any mortal human child. Though, that could have been the sidhe blood flowing through his veins, just as it’s the cause of the magic he commands. His childhood was eventful to say the least, trained in both the ways of a magician, and the sword by his father Aurix was being prepared for the day, when he would be sent off to train under others.
  
  Growing up, Aurix had a few friends. Though due to his nature, he didn’t have many mostly out of fear the others had for him. Though, those that got close enough for him to consider them friends, were people who would travel with him when they were all old enough. They included Erik, a halfman who had more courage than most men twice his height. Then there was Lorn, an older friend who had aspirations of becoming a knight one day. Though the dream wasn’t to be. Still, all three of them were fortunate enough to be taken under the wing of Vaelis, the son of a deceased knight named Georg Kelek.
  
  At the age of sixteen, Aurix and his other friends were taken under Vaelis’ wing. Although the other two never had formal training, he had found that Aurix had taught them more than what the average peasant knew. Though not a knight himself, the best any of them could have been were men-at-arms, except that wasn’t quite what Vaelis had in mind for any of them. For four years, Aurix was trained by not only Vaelis, but also tutored by other mentors, including William and Vaer Drevaste, and a darkaath battle-sorcerer by the name of Rhos Vossek.
  
  By the age of twenty, Aurix had passed the training given to him by his mentors. Ready for the world, they formed Vaelis’ Traveling Company. Over the next four years, they traveled the lands, battled bandits, and protected towns and villages from raids by brigands, and even a few skirmishes with imperials from the south. Eventually Vaelis laid claim to a battered, and abandoned fortress known as Uthgart Keep. Pooling their resources together, the Company, and hired hands cleared out the overgrowth, and even repaired most of the keep into working order. This formed the beginning of the Vanguard, a small militaristic force dedicated to the protection of the surrounding lands.
  
  Over the next four years, Aurix and the others became instrumental in the formation of the Order. Becoming one of Vaelis’ lieutenants, Aurix now had to lead others into combat. A fact which while he was proud of, was also something he never enjoyed. A tactician, or a directly combative personality, Aurix was good, but not great at his job. With their help, the Vanguard became forty men strong, with a large population to support the professional soldiers. Uthgart Keep soon became a shining beacon in the region, offering patrols to keep the roads safer than they had been for more than half a century.
