• Description

  Captain Sasha Saturn, AKA Captain Anchor-Arms, of the privately owned hunting ship, the UCS Charon. Lost both arms and most of her original crew to a monster attack on Colonial Planet Arcadia, and sold off the remaining ships in her shipping company's fleet to fund replacement prosthetic arms and to refurbish her flagship into a hunting vessel.
  
  A stern and hawkish woman, she carries the faintest hint of a haunted soul behind her sharp expression. Of heavily muddied Russian/Chinese/Other descent, the first two being the most readily apparent. Straight, dark brown hair, narrow eyes which accentuate the predatory look, and a relatively strong build. She has large, blocky prosthetic metal arms, both strong enough to smash your average household appliance. To compensate for the weight and stress they exert, her spine and skeleton have been reinforced accordingly; this is apparent from the outside by the dull glow her spine emits, and small metal plates on the outside of her knees and hips and shoulders. She wears specially padded boots, too, but that's more for comfort than necessity.
  
  She gives slightly more leeway to her crew, but she tends to be professional and curt when dealing with strangers, unless they irritate her, in which case her fuse shortens quickly. Her crew was chosen personally to include people who were either close enough to her to understand her mission, or people who were strange enough not to lodge any complaints about it. That being said, it isn't unusual for her to go off on her own to do whatever when the ship is at port.
  
  Lately, she has become increasingly single-minded and obsessed with finding the monster that attacked her ship. No one has seen her genuinely smile since she lost her arms; at most she'll give a grim smirk. The look on her face when presented with the possibility of confronting her demon hardly qualifies as a smile.
  
  She's gotten used to her new arms but still occasionally forgets and crushes something with them, usually an intercom, or a door. She makes a point of not touching people with them.

  Colonial planet Arcadia, established only a century and a half ago. The population is substantial but spread out among the mountains. Mostly mining communities, founded by various corporations, but the farming on the planet has proved surprisingly successful. Most settlements are self-sufficient, but trade between settlements is both common and encouraged. Each one has its own defense force to ward off the local fauna and pirates, and most of them are fairly well-funded. The logic to this, of course, was originally that it would deter corporate espionage, but due to the dangerous nature of the planet, this is not something most people in the colony care about.
  
  The planet itself is especially of note for the "Planetary spike" that seemingly runs through the planet. It's large enough to be seen from space, and consists of an obelisk on either side of the planet's equator. Should be scientifically impossible for it to be a natural phenomenon but the material that makes it up is so far unknown.
  
  The History of Captain Saturn:
  Captain Sasha originally owned a colonial shipping company left to her by her father, Saturn Shipping. Most of its efforts were focused on the colonial planet Arcadia. The company had a small fleet of vessels and had established a fairly respectable reputation for quick and safe cargo transport until an attack by an abnormally large mist dragon in what had previously been a fairly safe passage left the Captain's life irreparably shaken. She lost both arms and most of her ship's crew, but thanks to what crew was left, she managed to survive the ordeal. She sold off all of her ships except for her flagship, and changed Saturn Shipping into a salvage and hunting organization, rechristened Saturn Salvage. With the money from selling off her old life, she obtained prosthetic arms, refurbished her ship for combat and salvage, and hired on a small but able and trustworthy crew to man it.

  %% Navigator %% : Tanvi Muldoon. The product of commercial genetic engineering, she's a second-generation mutant. The process is known to be somewhat risky and exceedingly expensive, but her parents' work in the United Colonial Defense Forces prompted the necessity (and, incidentally, provided the funding; the extreme danger of the work equates to a very high paycheck). Tanvi herself possesses a set of four eyes. The top two can move independently of the bottom two and each other, and can see well in low-light conditions. Generally, she focuses all four eyes on the same thing at the same time and moves them together, because doing otherwise for too long results in a rather severe headache. A true frontier spirit, Tanvi loves charting new paths and exploring. She also shares some of her parents' spirit, and feels the Captain's mission serves to make the colony a safer place to live. Has dark skin, long, thick black hair typically braided back down to her knees. The First Mate dislikes this breach of typical safety codes, but the Captain's word on the matter is that as long as she uses those eyes of hers to keep out of trouble, it's her decision to wear her hair how she wants.
  
  $$ First Mate $$ : Rex Bounty, former close associate of the Captain's father, served under the man's command in the Outer Reaches branch of the Colonial Navy. Has seen some shit. About in his 50s or so, is viewed by the captain as something like an older brother. His former captain, the father of his current, was prone to bouts of paranoia before his ultimate retirement to found Saturn Shipping (the company he passed on to his daughter). He rationalized this to Rex as a way to keep the men on their toes, and Mr Bounty believed him and adopted the idea that the threat of mutiny kept the crew alert. To this end, he takes on the charade of plotting against the captain. So far it's not really working, and the Captain already knows he's full of it but she puts up with his act to humor him. Her poker face is far stronger than his; mostly he just drops hints to the crew about insurrection and "pretends" to care about the Captain's well-being. The act probably won't last past the first cabin boy who actually believes him and tries to start a real mutiny. (I probably won't work with this gimmick and just make him the usual trusted advisor, I dunno.)
  
  ## Weapons Chief ## : BUCK, AKA Bucket-head, a gunnery robot modified to operate heavy weaponry and specializing in ship-to-ship weapon systems. Tall, barrel-shaped, unable to access many parts of the ship due to size. Sticks to the hangar, weapon system sections, firing range, and repair shop. Stands about 7'6" tall, thereabouts, but his arms are only a little bigger than Sasha's. An inelegant, monocular design, but cheap and effective. It also sports a rather... enthusiastic... personality program. Doesn't take well to having to order around humans to operate the ship's weapons while he's busy on the bigger weapons or other tasks; they're slow and they complain a lot about something that's so much fun. Lazy bastards. Crass and somewhat condescending to humans, is only happy when he's killing stuff. Her full support of this and her own cybernetic limbs has made BUCK take a shine to the captain, but the rest are still morons.
  
  @@ Cook & Quartermaster @@ : Joe Kazama, 53-year old man of vaguely Asian descent, raised on the colony. Has connections with the merchants and helps get supplies cheaply despite the Captain's dour disposition and less than positive reputation. Makes good food, but refuses to share recipes or explain ingredients. The captain believes he does this just to make the younger crewmembers suspicious of him.
  
  ** Doctor ** : Doctor Nyx Kilo, an accredited and licensed medical doctor and with a good record, who insists that the ship's medical bay be stocked with all the most up-to-date medicines and equipment, and uses modern, esoteric medical procedures. An excellent doctor, and part of the reason the Captain is able to deal with the phantom limb pain that still lingers. Is secretly a giant Millipede in a man suit.
  
  (( Lead Mechanics )) : Eric and Ronick Erwick, two very large, bear-like gentlemen of chromatically opposite skin tones, but with equal enthusiasm for gentlemanly mustaches. They insist that their face fuzz is a genetic trait inherited from their ancestors, but it's kind of fucking obvious that the pasty white Eric and the dark-skinned Ronick aren't actually related. They have similar builds, though, so less perceptive (and more gullible) people might actually be convinced by it. It should be noted that they don't actually seem to be gay, either; but if not, they're about as close as you can get without crossing that border. They are unmatched in their ability to fix things... on a particular budget range. If they can't fix it right, they'll patch-job the hell out of it, at least. Good enough is good enough. And, as they say, they'll look damn good doing it, too.
  
  Salvage Chief : "Junkyard" Jack, tall, scrawny, scruffy-looking bearded man in his late 30s, born on the Titan colony and raised in an orbital chop shop. Surrounded by machines and other mechanics all his life, it often frustrates him when he has to explain things to non-mechanically minded people. Gets along best with the Erwick "Brothers", though there are occasional quibbles over what parts belong to what department.
  
  -- Aux. Pod Operator / "Science Officer" -- : "Spooky" Sally Callahan. Supposedly has Texan ancestry, but is very distinctly Korean, except for her slightly tan skin and light freckles, and the fact that she's actually taller than the Captain. Long, straight black hair with flat bangs ending just over her eyes. Her face, much like the captain's, tends to remain in an unsettlingly intense expression, though hers is more unreadable. The most likely reason is that she didn't get enough human interaction as a child and her default expression became the disinterested glare of a pouting child. Or something like that. She spends her spare time researching the occult and studying odd phenomenon reported through the sector. Believes the Arcadia colony planet is actually itself an ancient artifact of some long-past civilization. Has about 5 different conspiracy theories depending on the time of day.
  
  ^^ Comms Officer ^^ : Cindy Almora, formerly one of the lower-level tech workers, chosen for the duty for being the most personable person on the ship. Has a good ear for music and sound, knows a lot of old Earth sea shanties, though she never tells anyone where she heard them. Most people think she just makes them up. Tends to tell off-color jokes that are at odds with her sweet and cheerful disposition. The First Mate worries about her Net activity.
  
  ~~ Custodial Drone ~~ : Unit Q, affectionately nicknamed "Qub". A small frisbee-sized drone that flits about the ship cleaning sheets, overseeing the laundry, mopping up spills, etc. Capable of equipping various extensions to facilitate more heavy duty jobs, like cleaning scorch marks off the deck.
