• Biography

  Maerwen's life is, compared to many, luxurious. She lives in a castle, safe from the depredations of the city streets far below the castle grounds. She is warm, fed fine foods and clothed in beautiful fabrics. Her job is an easy one -- she is a handmaiden to the Queen, a personal attendant that sees to Her Majesty's comfort and amusement. This usually entails simple, ladylike activities like embroidery, picking flowers, gardening, playing music, dancing and entertaining. Keeping Her Majesty's social calender. While it was her late mother's servitude in the castle's kitchens that got Maerwen 'in the door' at the castle, it was her quiet sweetness, willingness, and delicate features that won her her position.
  
  Things aren't always what they might seem to be, however. The King, Her Majesty's husband, is a hard man, just bordering on cruelty. And as their kingdom prepares for war, danger looms over the horizon. Even more worrisome, Maerwen's thoughts have begun to border on rebellious. She looks out of the castle, to the town below and wonders about the people that she sees. Walking about, doing what they want or care to. Not bent to a whim that is not their own.
