• History

  Second born, he had many expectations pushed onto him since his birth. All because his older brother, Kei Luna, was never quite right in the head. So his parents were very controlling of what he could or couldn’t do, trying to make Shin into the utmost and perfectly behaved child. At the time he would do anything to please his parents so Shin would study hard and excel in an academic setting. While he worked to please his parents and earn their love through academics, his older brother was steadily going off the deep end. The town believed Kei had been possessed and was evil because the boy was obsessed with “magic” and “spells”. He claimed he could even see and speak with things others could not. This fear of Kei bled over onto Shin, especially when it was found out his birthday was on All Hollows Eve—Halloween—believed to be a malevolent day over all, especially in terms of birth. So gradually people began to fear Shin alongside his brother.
  
  On Shin’s ninth birthday, Kei finally snapped.
  Shin returned home from school to a home drenched in blood. The smell of death hung thickly in the air. Further inside the dyed house, Shin found both of his parents dead. They had been murdered and sliced to ribbons. At first look it appeared to be a blade of some kind but Shin had never heard of a blade being able to cause the damage that he saw. It must’ve been some kind of demon that had done this to his parents. Worried about his brother’s safety, Shin sought him out. A grave mistake on his part and one that would lead to Shin to grow hatred deep within his heart. He found his brother upstairs in his room, humming happily as he wiped blood from his face and hands. It was a nightmare-ish sight for the boy and one he would never forget.
  
  Before he knew it, Kei turned on him as well. How he survived the attack is a blur in his mind, all he knows is that he DID survive. Somehow. But not unscathed. Shin bears the reminder on his back—his entire back is covered in scars, almost like someone tried to use him as a sharpening board for their blade. He also had a light burn scar on his left hand. Kei had set the house on fire to be rid of the evidence and scene of his crime, never having expected Shin to survive let alone escape. But the boy did and he’s vowed to hunt his brother down and make the other pay for his crimes. It doesn’t matter how long he has to search or who he has to cut down, Shin is determined to wring the life from his brother for making him suffer so. Because even though he survived and tried to tell what happened, the town turned on him as well. It was that night as Shin learned that the root of all the mistreatment to him had been not only due to his birth date, but because of his family. Considered a bunch of heretics and vile beings. They would offer no help to such a person and Shin was exiled from the place he’d called home. Left to die from his injuries, though it is clear that didn’t happen.
  
  Shin still lives because he learned in order to survive, you have to do things. Dark things. Things that you can’t always be proud of, yet as he stained his hands over and over with blood to survive—whether it was for food and shelter or safety—Shin’s heart began to harden and he became quite twisted. He learned to read people in order to get what he wanted and would force if they didn’t comply easily. All to get a tiny step closer to revenge.

• Personality

  The ability to harness the look of innocence is easily achieved by his big blue eyes, neatly pressed school uniforms, neatly combed hair, and bright smile. The sweet and angelic child-like appearance leads many to believe he is just as sweet as he looks but that is as wrong as a person can get in terms of describing his personality.
  If one were to take the time to sit and chat with him, Shin shows a shocking wisdom well beyond his years. Depending on the situation he’ll play it off with laughs and childish musings or jokes, so as not to bring suspicion upon himself. But he does have a hard time choosing his words and remaining child-like at all times, so his manner of speech can shock others and make them wonder about his age.
  
  Deep down Shin is cold and calculating, always weighing his options to see what will work in his favor. He’ll do whatever he must to continue surviving and track down his brother. Granted he knows he’s up against someone that may be able to use Dark Arts but that won’t stop him from trying. Not until every last breath has left his lungs and his heart stops beating. So one could say he’s very determined. Giving up is not really in his dictionary and he’ll grin and bear many things in order to do what must be done. It’s even gotten to the point that blood, bone chilling screams, and the like no longer faze him. At one time it made him physically ill but his drive kept him going and now he’s desensitized to it.
  
  Even speaking and dealing with adults that he despises so much is something he can tolerate (when he wants to). They treat him like a child and he hates that; though, he is still quite naïve about many adult things. In theory he is aware of certain things like laws, politics, religion, and ‘where babies come from’. But while he knows that last part in theory, the rest of human biology is not in his bank of knowledge. With puberty a short while away, it is safe to say he will be rather surprised when it hits—as he knows nothing of it or the effects it will have on his mind, body, and soul. It doesn’t help he hates intimate touches from hugs and beyond.

• Extra

  • Shin HATES it when others see the scars on his back. So he’s always clothed or has his back covered by some means.
  • Shin suffers from aquaphobia—the fear of water. He cannot swim so he’ll avoid deep water whenever possible (such as oceans, rivers, and lakes). You won’t find him on a boat of any kind.
  • Much prefers to deal with women than men, as he feels it is easier to pull at the heartstrings of a woman than it is to do so to a man.
  • Enjoys arguing / debating with older people (i.e. teens). He finds them utterly ridiculous and enjoys making fun of them.
  • There are only two people he considers “friends” and they are Anei Nevaz and Isabelle Itzel (also known as ‘Alice’). Otherwise he has no friends and has a hard time making them.
