• Description

  Simon is your average twelfth year student from the Aeron Schools. Everything you'd expect in a high school boy. Lazy, procrastinator, always tired, barely passing grades, and so on. His problem: he has to live up to the expectations of the Dragon Student class. The Dragons are always seen as the heroes of Aeron, doing extraordinary things and saving dozens of lives at a time. The most extraordinary thing Simon does every day is climb out of bed, and the only life he's saved is a tenth year girl named Leya, and that was by total accident. Summing it all up, let's just say that Simon is the Dragon teachers use as a bad example. And to top it all off, he still hasn't completed the eighth year assignment of choosing which Dragon he would Draw from.
  Simon's best friend, a girl by the name Judith, is also in the Dragon class and is usually seen either doing Simon's work for him, or tucked behind the cover of a good book. His younger brother, a tenth year named Neal, carries the hopes and dreams of the family on his shoulders, (and since he's the only member of his family not sorted to the Dragon class, that is quite a weight). Simon's parents dropped him Neal on the steps of the first Aeron school the first opportunity they got, so all that the brothers really know are the schools and each other. If Simon isn't with Judith, he's with Neal. Simon's self proclaimed arch rival Ernest, a Hound, has always been doing what Simon neglected to; he likes thinking of himself as a real pest to Simon, but Simon thinks of him more like an unpaid servant than anything.
  A common rumor among students at Aeron is that Simon and Judith are a couple, to which they respond, "Sure we're a couple... A couple of STUDENTS! Hardy har har!" even though they both know that they are perfect for each other. Another, more accurate rumor, is that Leya and Neal are a couple. Isn't it cute when tenth years act like total soulmates? Dawww... so cute.
  Because Judith does a LOT of Simon's work, he often Draws from the same dragon as she does, and that has done nothing to tone down the rumors. It's not the best or worst decision to make. The Feidlimid dragons are a wise choice for boys and girls of the Aeron Schools; it's well balanced in strength, stamina, and speed, not to mention it's the only dragon that allows for unimpaired unisex Drawing.

• Biography

  Simon was born like any of us into a world he didn't fully understand. As he grew, the world became more and more familiar to him, and then Neal showed up right as he felt like there was nothing more to learn. Before Neal could hold a conversation, Simon's parents put him in a carriage headed to the first Aeron School. For two years, he talked about his brother without even remembering what he looked like.
  Up until his class's Sorting, he would hold a friend for barely over a month before he/she moved on and he was forced to find a new friend; until his Sorting brought him to Judith. The Sorting put Simon and Judith in the Dragon class before sending them up the street to middle school. For another two years, Simon barely saw Neal except across the street through some of Aeron's giant glass windows. Because of their busy schedules and school regulations, it wasn't until Neal's Sorting that the two brothers got to see each other again.

• Drawing

  Drawing is a method through which students of Aeron can transform parts of their bodies into animal parts. They can turn their arms and legs into dog legs or cat legs, turn their arms into wings from birds or bats, grow the parts they need out of spots on their bodies, etc. Very often, Aeron students will choose from a specific species of animal that they can Draw from.

• Aeron Schools

  Aeron Schools were developed as a three stage process schooling system. The first is identical to our elementary schools; you meet everyone in your grade, acquire a basic knowledge of math, literature, science, English, social studies, and the arts, and at the end of the five/six years, get sorted into your Animal classes. The way Aeron was developed made it so that no Animal was above another (although, that did not stop everyone from wanting to be a part of the Dragons). The second, which is the equivalent of our middle schools, puts more emphasis on mastering Drawing techniques, but does not put down the importance of math, English, science, etc. By the end of the third step (high school), the students should have an acceptable knowledge of the world around them and the powers at their disposal.
  But what makes Aeron different from other schools is its emphasis on Drawing. Not the pen on paper kind of drawing you'd do in a notebook like Simon often finds himself doing, but a Drawing of powers from an animal to use for yourself. A student of Aeron is sorted into one of six classes: a Dragon, a Swimmer, a Hound, a Feline, an Avian, or a Reptile. From there, the student must choose a specific animal in their class from which they can Draw their powers. Ex: a Hound could choose from a fox, a wolf, a dog, etc. where an Avian could choose from bats, eagles, sparrows, etc. A student cannot Draw from a class that is not their own.
  The purpose of Aeron is to familiarize students with their powers, something that a lot of alumni and parents tend to forget. The misconception is that Aeron is supposed to teach its students to harness and emphasize their powers, and to let go of the basic knowledge they'll need for the world outside.
