  In faded black clothing befitting an accountant or scribe, this fox shuffles along with appraising eyes. Perhaps his most remarkable feature is the utter lack of them; yellow irises and red-orange fur, as befitting his species - no horns, wings, scales, or heterochromia. There wasn't so much as a weapon in his possession, unless one counted the absurdly large book chained to his side. There is only one insignia on his person; an elaborate copper badge on his lapel that reads "PENNIES-TO-DIMES CONSULTING FIRM."

  Belongings
  - The Book - 'The Book,' as Mephiles refers to it simply, is the source of all his Dread Bureaucrat magic. Without it, Mephiles cannot cast spells. Fortunately, The Book seems impervious to all damage, though it is hardly ideal as a weapon or shield, being shaped like a book. It also seems to possess infinitely many pages, despite being the size and weight of a large tome, and always seems to open to whatever relevant information Mephiles is looking for.
  The Book is also imprinted to Mephiles, and does not take lightly to being stolen. Anyone who thieves The Book from Mephiles will become the target of a curse that causes them to lose half of all their total fortunes every week that The Book is not returned. This loss typically manifests itself in some coincidental fashion; taxes, fines, investments gone awry, costs of operation increasing sharply due to accidents, and so forth. If the thief has no money, they will begin to accrue debt every week until they become hunted.
  - Silver Letter Opener - This small, blunt blade is the bane of all particularly stubborn envelopes. It also doubles as a handy shiv against vampires and undead.
  - Silver Vinca Symbol - While not a practitioner of faith, Mephiles does carry a symbol of the Vinca just in case.
  - Quill, Ink, and Parchments - Handy for taking down notes when Mephiles feels they are not quite important enough to record in The Book.
