• Backstory

  When Adrian was around ten, he and his younger sister Eleanor were orphaned when their parents were murdered by a rogue vampire. They spent the next number of years getting bumped around, not really belonging to anyone, and not having any kind of real hope for a future or any kind of goals to work towards.
  
  Finally, at 19, Adrian was murdered himself by the same still-unapprehended rogue vampire who killed their parents. The killer didn't do a very good job, however--in his haste, he didn't drink enough of his blood, and upon death from blood loss, Adrian reawoke as the undead. A fledgling doesn't become a full vampire until the consumption of human blood occurs, however.
  
  Adrian, not totally aware of what happened, spent a few days in a hazy stupor, progressively becoming more and more disoriented by his blood lust until he attacked Eleanor. By drinking her blood, he regained his senses and completed his transformation, but at the cost of her life. Being new to his role and having had no mentoring on how to deal with his vampirism, however, he didn't do the best job.
  
  Surprise! Murdered Eleanor wakes as a new vampire herself. Oops. She doesn't do such a bad job of accidentally murdering someone, though, and her victim, a mere child, stays dead. Adrian decides the only thing that can be done for his repentant and despairing sister is to bring her somewhere new.
  
  They leave town.
  
  While Eleanor is devastated by her new condition as a citizen of the undead, Adrian is happy, because now he has a purpose (he thinks). He fully dedicates himself to being a "proper" vampire. They are tracked down by a coven of vampires, who give them some assets and teach them how to maintain themselves, but Adrian is pretty sure he already knows how to be The Best Vampire Possible.
  
  His present role is being a huge, ridiculous stereotype (though he doesn't know it) in his efforts to be truly dedicated to The Darkness. He enjoys writing long, boring poetry about darkness and despair, and practicing calligraphy. (He's an excellent calligraphist, but a terrible speller.)
  
  He also likes to claim he's hundreds of years old, which is a huge lie, and that he has more powers than he actually does, including the ability to turn into a bat, and the ability to engage in minor poltergeist-like activity.
  
  Adrian also would like to believe that sunlight will destroy him, and that he cannot walk on/near holy ground or holy items, but these things are untrue as well.
