• Background

  Born in Persia it was the life of a slave for the exotic creature. Gifted to the king at a young age Odji quickly established himself as the king's favourite pet. Back then however the odd little creature was affectionately named Roshan, meaning shining or splendid. His long tail feathers and rather bratty temperament gave him the upper hand to most creatures; he was rare enough to get away with ten times more bad behaviour than the rest of the household. Darrius the first was his master and owner and the king never went anywhere without his trusted pet. Roshan was treated as a prized pet, given riches and of course the pampered lifestyle that went along with it, all for his undying loyalty and his reasonable behaviour when company was around. This however changed dramatically when Darrius waged war upon the Greeks, foolish in his greed and lust for war. Of course it all went wrong and the once royal pet was reduced to nothing but a common slave, something he, in his very short life, was not used to. Rebelling was all he knew how to do when he wasn't getting his own way, kicking off and trying his best to make those around his miserable. Soon enough he earned himself a new name. Kozma. That was all he was, decoration, a spoil of war and an ill-tempered one at that. As much as Odji now hated what had become of him, he was still not as stupid as he made out. There was always a way to shift the blame to others, always a way to make himself seem innocent, thus breaking the bonds of trust to all those round him. Soon though people began to think of him as some sort of witch an evil one with all the foreboding of the underworld. The now, Kozma was more than happy for people to think ill of him, it forced them to keep their distance though it did pose its problems, and for his mischief he was locked up, years of seeing next to no one left his with a bitter disposition and a taste for the macabre. Knowing only now how to be bad the lad took it upon himself to make it his life's work, making them regret his rude snatching from his life of luxury. Years had passed and Koz had grown up, hardly changing of course though he was to become a gift, a peace offering to the Egyptian Pharaoh Nepherites. For the third and final time there was a name change; Odji. His reputation had preceded him and as soon as he was presented he was labelled; branded with two tattoos, one found on the top of his left arm, reminding him of his status in life and the other between his shoulder blades, warning people of the evil that lay buried in the lad's soul. Once again Odji became the favourite pet, learning the language quickly and showing his taste for all things sinister and mischievous. The Pharaoh found something entertaining in the lad and gave him what he once had, finding that a happy pet was also a loyal pet, less willing to betray a fair and loving king. Upon the death of Nepherites I, two rival factions fought for the throne: one supported Muthis son of Nefaarud, and the other supported an usurper named Psammuthes. Psammuthes won and Odji was shipped off, the new Pharoah had no use for sure and unwilling slave, sending him off to one of the far corners of the earth. Out of sight out of mind.
