• Biography

  John R. Brinkley was America's most successful con man. Setting up shop in Milford, Kansas with little to his name but boundless personal charisma and a fake medical diploma, he earned celebrity and great wealth by promising to surgically restore youth, vitality, and sexual potence. The ill-advised method he 'pioneered' to that end was, simply, implanting his patients with goat testicles. A relentless self-promoter, Doc Brinkley was one of the first to realize the commercial potential for radio, and is responsible for countless innovations in broadcasting to better advertise his dubious services. Among other things, his radio stations broadcast variety shows to draw in listeners, thus making him responsible for bringing folk and country music to national attention. (Johnny Cash is said to have grown up listening to Brinkley's radio station.)
  
  When Brinkley's Kansas medical license was revoked, he audaciously decided to run for governor, hoping to use the position to pack the medical board with his cronies to overturn that decision. Though he announced his candidacy too late to get on the ballot, write-in votes would have carried him to a landslide victory...if not for the fact that the election board accepted invalidated thousands of such ballots, accepting only a single, very specific rendering of the not-so-good doctor's name.
  
  History tells us that when Brinkley's scheming finally caught up with him, he died alone and penniless. In truth, however, his life of audacious crime brought him to the attention of the Followers of Set, a clan of vampiric tricksters and corrupters who seek to bring about a world freed from the constraints of petty morality. Brought into the dark fold, Brinkley has lived on long after his death in much the same way he did in life--amassing wealth and influence at the expense of others, playing the deadly, decadent games of vampiric politics like a pro.
