    And they have not.

    The west front was, is, an awful place. For over a hundred miles, much over, two lines of trenches, Central and Allied powers, covered the ground. Between the two lines was no man's land, littered with dead bodies, covered in the craters of mortar shells and siege guns, and filled to the brim with mud. Mud, mud, craters, and mud. That was the trench life. And that was the life Maxim was born into.

    His real name was lost far down the line, and everyone referred to him simply as "Private Gunner" in the military. He got his nickname of Maxim from the old poem: "Whatever happens, we have got, the maxim gun, and they have not". He was indeed a feared gunner in the British army, and it only hurt his squadron more when he was presumed dead... or was he?

    It happened in a battle long, long ago. It was a harsh one, and left them with one choice: fight or die. They chose the first. It was during this harsh battle that Maxim was taken, by someone or something, to save him. But unfortunately, his friends were killed in the battle, and he was never to be seen again... not for a long, long time.
