    Cody was born in Metro City along with his younger brother Kyle. Before he became a teenager, the brothers were left on the streets after their parents passed away.
    They not only depended on each other, but they also depended on surviving. They stole and fought their way through life. When they were old enough, they were able to get jobs and a studio apartment in the slums of the city.
    Life seemed to get better for Cody afterwards. He met and fell in love with the Mayor's daughter Jessica Haggar. He also met his good friend Guy Hinato. At the same time, however, the Mad Gear gang, a group of drug-smuggling criminals, was growing large and were nearly close in taking over Metro City.
    Since Mayor Mike Haggar did his best to resist the Mad Gear gang, they kidnapped his daughter in order to force him to let the gang do as they please. Since the police are too afraid to do anything about it, Haggar decided to take them on himself. He managed to get help from both Cody and Guy. Together, the three ventured off to save Jessica.
    The rescue was successful. They managed to save her, (accidentally) kill their leader, and tore Mad Gear apart for good. However, despite that, Cody began to slowly fall into a drifter. He left Jessica to search for blood on the streets.
    Cody kept up with the fighting in a berserk frame of mind. It had gotten bad enough that he was thrown in jail. From then on, no one has heard from the hero-turned-drifter for years...
    It was rumored that Cody had managed to escape jail to prusuit against Shadowlaw. Details about that are still sketchy...
