• Biography

  Simon's family was functional and whole in a way that worked well for his parents and sister but not for Simon. His mother and father's marriage were not arranged in the traditional sense but was still very much a merger - and they love each other and what they've built from it. They love their business, their place in society, and their children - and want for the latter the other two. So when Simon, despite appreciating some of these trappings just as much as his sister, wanted to shirk anything business-related to be a writer, his parents tried to push him into the best schools and social connections they could find. He buckled under the pressure and much preferred to be left alone. When his sister showed more appreciation for the help, Simon more or less disappeared into the background.   Simon is a natural writer of unflinching creative nonfiction, but actually has no love for writing at all outside of its usefulness for understanding the world around him. The lifestyle is more what drew him in when he was young, a freedom presented to him by beat writers and nature-loving poets. His skill and his stories, which he claims as fiction but base entirely on real life, earn him a living - but as much of his time is spent drinking and working out his frustration in a gym (to avoid breaking furniture) when he can't think of anything else to put on paper as it is writing. He very much appreciates the things that a successful novel can buy him - high-end clothing and coffee in particular - but is just as happy drinking endless diner sludge and ironing thrift-store t-shirts and jeans.
  
  While on a ghostwriting research trip, Simon finds himself staring down the love of his life - a baby girl - and almost loses his contract diverting his attention to bringing her home. It isn't planned the way most people plan these things, but he knows as soon as he holds her that all he wants in life is to be a loving parent. While he's open to other aspects of life, his first and foremost identity thereafter is Dad. Any partners, whether single or poly, of whatever gender, will have to share him with and play the village in raising Chrissy, because no one is going to be able to overshadow or replace her.
