• Backstory

  Born just south of the Commonwealth, Romeo Crystal had always been a mild-mannered boy who sought nothing more than the simplicity of getting a good wife and taking a section of his father's land to farm for himself. Something seemed to change when he turned 18, however, and his calm demeanor seemed to switch to something more anxious, more curious and displeased with the world. It didn't take long at all for him to run away and join a Raider band lead by a Raider by the name of Bullet.
  Over the years, it didn't take long for him to become the leader's favourite. Bullet fostered an addiction to psycho in his new fighter, who he found had an affinity for losing his mind in fights. Romeo seemed happy with his new life, though for years, he struggled with finding blood in his hair at night and a growing aggression he couldn't seem to satisfy. At twenty, he followed his fellow raiders into a fight to try to loot a nearby farm, only to find that they had already been attacked -- by Super Mutants.
  When his squad was taken out by a Suicider, Romeo was narrowly able to kill the rest of the mutants, and could hear the soft sound of a child crying. There, in the basement, he found a small girl, no older than two, who had witnessed the brutal murders of her parents, and once he got her calm, he wrapped her up and took her away to Diamond City, where they stayed in hiding for a few days. One morning, however, he woke not to the sound of the girl crying or asking for food, but to a sharp punch to his face and duct tape tying him to a chair. Kidnapped by Bullet, Romeo sat through the raider explaining that Romeo was a synth, a minion of the Institute who had replaced his childhood friend, the real Romeo Crystal, and he had figured that out because the Institute's software had glitched and caused him not to have the memory of Bullet and many other things, and changed his personality.
  Tortured for hours, he was rescued by an agent of the Railroad, who brought him to the headquarters and, once he had healed up, Romeo was given help to get clean and be trained to be an agent of the Railroad as well. He was released into the world only two years later as an active agent -- and to raise Pearl as his own.

• Backstory

  Born inside the Commonwealth, Pearl was raised by a father who was a farmer and a mother who was a trader. Their farm suffered frequent raids from raiders. She was only two when the Super Mutants attacked, but she suffers the effect of it daily. She could only watch as her parents were torn limb from limb, narrowly falling victim to them herself before she crawled into the cellar.
  As they searched desperately for her, she was rescued suddenly by a young man, who carried her to Diamond City and made her feel safe for the first time. In the middle of the night one night, she woke to the house being broke into, but could only find time to hide herself once more. She watched Romeo be drugged and taken, and only once another man had entered did she find solace. She told the agent what the raiders looked like as best as her distraught two-year old mind could, but it was enough.
  She was soon reunited with Romeo, clinging to him as if her life depended on it, and happily grew up alongside him in the Railroad, referring to him now as her father.
