  • Personality: Very playful and energetic. Usually smiling and loves to get others going with jokes and pranks. He can be serious when need be but his fun loving sarcastic demeanor really is the life of a dull moment.

• Description

  He wears darker blues then Sicada, and likes to keep things simple. The most intricate part of his outfit are the leather bands that wrap around the upper part of his coat which have shark teeth as well as a yellow and light purple triangular trim. If he removes his outer garments he is usually wearing loose black pants and a pale coloured long sleeve shirt, usually on the cooler side of the colour spectrum, and nothing too bright. He also wears a silver natural Amethyst pendant that Sicada gave to him on their engagement night, it hangs on a thin black braided leather rope just below the middle of his collar bone.

• Biography

  Mariatu was born on the shores of Iceland to a human father and a Selkie mother. Unlike most Selkie human parings that were forced, his mother married his father out of love. Selkies were forbidden to see humans but as his ship over turned in the ocean due to a storm, she saved him and from there their relationship grew. After seven years his mother returned to the sea for only a day, but she missed her husband so much that against her peoples beliefs and wishes she returned to him once more and stayed there with him and Mariatu until he was 18 years old. Then due to the threat against her people she reluctantly returned to the city of Helhiem, with her young son unknowingly following closely behind. As he neared the city his fatigue became heavy and his breath was running out when a small seal with green eyes used a magic on him that enabled him to breath. He held her tail fins and she brought him through the elaborate tunnels that led to the surface of Helhiem where his mother had gone. She transformed into her human self and wrapped her selkie pelt around him to keep him warm. She told him her name was Kaikoura and that she was new to the city as well. The two became close even though their ages were a few years apart. He took on the roll of a big brother to Kaikoura and tried his best to keep her safe. He told her that he was looking for his mother, but because she knew no one in the city she wasn't able to tell him where she was but she helped him look. When she was arrested for trying to enter the sacred courtyard of Irminsul, Mariatu who was now 20 years old tried to rescue her but was caught himself and brought in front of the the queen. He fell to his knees and begged her to let Kaikoura go but as he did so a woman appeared behind the queen, her appearance had changed slightly since the last time he had seen her but he knew who she was. The woman bowed before the queen and spoke to her in Selkish, and the guards released him on the queens command. He had finally found his mother after searching for two years. After learning that his mother was of noble birth and was the queens advisor he was welcomed into the palace as one of them, even as a half human half selkie. He met Princess Sicada who at first despised him, but as time passed they grew close and have since been engaged to be married.
