• Description

  Being a Shade, Zahariel's physical appearance varies based on whether or not he's exposed to the sun or not. Standing above six feet, he is lithe and handsome. He usually wears a priestly outfit consisting of a black tunic with a white colored emblem, a sun whose rays are inwardly turned, embroidered on it. This is covered by a thick black overcoat that opens at the waist. He wears hardy black leather boots designed for travelling long distances. He also has one sheath strapped to his belt which is the color of obsidian.
  
  Sunlight- Zahariel's a tall, handsome young man with tanned skin and golden hair. His hair is cut short and does not obscure his clear blue eyes. Beneath his clothes, his skin is covered in the scars from wounds which nearly claimed his life. His hands are calloused from years of training, swordplay, and hard work in the Temple.
  
  Darkness- Zahariel's skin becomes pale white and a strange tattoo appears on his face. His eyes become pitch black and the pupils glow with an ethereal yellow light. His hair also becomes like ebony. While in the darkness, shadows reach out and grasp at Zahariel's Shade-flesh for unknown reasons. His flesh is cool to the touch, but becomes smooth like it is new.

• Personality

  Zahariel is a strong willed man with great patience. He's loyal to his brothers in the order, especially the High Priest, Malachi, whom he considers an adoptive father. Some might consider him to be slightly detached, but that is because he was trained from a young age to avoid feelings of possessiveness. In this regard, he still makes close friends and is capable of love, but they might find him sometimes difficult to connect with on an intimate level.
  
  While others sleep or eat, Zahariel chooses to enter a trance-like state which helps ground and center his mind. Zahariel has long since adjusted to the concept of being without the physical needs of mortal beings, though he has yet to truly be put to the test of losing those he loves. Having spent over one hundred years in the Shadow Realm, he'd thought that he'd lost all those he knew. After arriving back in his home plane, he was surprised to discover that time moved much more quickly in the other world of Shadows than it did on his own world. Feeling blessed at the revelation, he's taken to fostering friendships more closely and trying to enjoy them to the fullest in the time allowed to the mortals he knows.
  
  Zahariel takes the cautious approach in most situations, having the benefit of being nearly immortal and indestructible gives him the sense for the long game. This can frustrate those around him who lack the same level of patience, especially since they often view his gifts as an excuse to be more reckless. He's not particularly jovial, though he does appreciate good humor. Outsiders to his priesthood might mistake his seriousness for a type of arrogance, but he does not truly believe himself better than anyone. At times, though, he can come across as patronizing or insensitive to the followers of other deities, for his belief is that all other so-called gods are merely expressions or thoughts in the mind of the Hidden God.

• Friends and Allies

  High Priest Malachi - The Chief Priest of the Hidden God Who Hears All Prayers. He was the one responsible for taking the young Zahariel into the Temple, and gave him a name. Malachi never made much of a secret regarding the favor he showed the young priest, who is now ironically much older than even he. For the most part, he serves as a mentor and leader to Zahariel, and still sends him on missions to eliminate threats to those who practice the Faith in the One God.
  
  Xenethar - The Shadow Dragon who first discovered Zahariel after his near-death experience. Xenethar presented himself as a mentor willing to teach the young priest how to harness the powers of the Shadow Element as well as how to use his innate racial abilites as a Shade. At times, Zahariel has wondered why the dragon took such an interest in him, and he theorizes that its his motivations are not likely selfless. Perhaps, the priest has pondered, Xenethar trained Zahariel with some darker purpose in mind. Either way, he is grateful to his "Master", and considers him to be an ally - albeit one who probably has an ulterior motive.
  
  Wallace - One of the many warrior-priests whom Zahariel was raised with, Wallace was a few years older than Zahariel prior to his transformation and stay in the Shadow Realm. He is honest and loyal, and is one of the few whom Zahariel trusts implicitly. Despite his transformation into a Shade, Wallace is one of the members of the brotherhood that aggressively supports him, and will not tolerate any skepticism towards Zahariel.
