• In Detail

  Character: A young shaman for her mostly nomadic clan on the edges of the industrialized tundra, Azri is no stranger to physical hardship. She is descended from many psychemancers, and they hold that word of The Past to be dear and secret. Ever since the calamity, most knowledge of her craft was lost and only preserved in its current raw state by the reclusive habits of her people with their oral traditions. Apart from her own clansmen, most of the world sees her as a witch; unknown, alien and suspicious.
  Still, she is hopeful, forward-moving, a strong believer in fate and the pursuit of balance, and is willing to see the good in most folks - even though she can get glib or cheeky when pressed. Indeed, her sense of humor can be a bit dark, probably something to do with all those long dark winters.
  
  Physical Description: Azri’s people are hardy and lithe, taking on traits of both the heron and reindeer. She is an average height, but even the largest men only reach about five-feet and nine inches tall. Clawed bird-feet, but with sturdy reindeer legs and tufted tails, their torsos shift from being covered in plush fur to downy feathers starting at the navel. These people are also crowned with a set of antlers, man or woman, but unlike their reindeer herds, do not shed them and instead grow them throughout their lifetime. Even with feathers, they are not equipped to fly, but their creation myths point to ancestors capable of flight. With coats that change with the seasons, spring and summer are deep browns and silvery chests, but in colder months Azri’s fur and feathers shift to mostly gray or white with dark accents.
  
  
  Psychemancy Concept: Psychemancers deal with dreams and especially the subconscious. They have varied abilities, based on training and heredity, that may allow them to enter the thoughts or dreams of subjects, alter thoughts or dreams, change perceptions of reality, or explore hidden thoughts or desires that the subject may not even realize they have. Understanding, manipulating and managing emotions is part and parcel of the practice, as well, though that ability is not guaranteed. (Theoretical: The origin of horrors is largely unknown, but remaining psychemancers believe it has to do with their practices or at the very least dark thoughts/emotions from the past coalescing into evil.) Most practitioners have, by this point, added cultural elements in line with their religious beliefs and it’s all rather scattered at this point - no consistency. Especially, for Azri as a shaman, she played an important role with her community as an impartial decision maker, dream guide, and ceremony proctor.
  
  The Setting: Some thousands of years ago, The Calamity destroyed the great civilizations of the world. The cause is at best merely speculated by those few privileged enough to know true history and has become old myths among the now scattered populations. A new kind of people rose out of the ashes, adapting to the scarred and reforged lands.
  Sapient human-like animals form small communities and nations across the globe. They are often amalgamations of two different beasts, showing the best and most useful traits of each. Men, elves and other humanoids are considered to be fantastical creatures by most people, but do exist in very small numbers.
  Where there were once immense kingdoms and enlightened societies, there are ruins and nomadic communities. Some cities exist as seats of power, trade and culture, but these are distant destinations. Currently, Azri has never left her home territory of Sitkha - the ancestral home of the nomadic peoples that resemble a cross between heron and reindeer. Sitkha live in very tough conditions among the steppes, tundra and dense arboreal forests in the northern reaches of the continent. They specialize in herding reindeer (non-sapient ), hunting and small scale agriculture. Sitkhan people are fiercely proud and independent with deep ties to the land, their own language and a highly developed culture. Though they often prefer more traditional methods for crafts and hunting, the use of new iron and steam based technologies are not out of their reach.
