She was once a graceful and powerful deer-like creature with glimmering scales and a lion's mane. As a Kirin, she could see into the hearts of other beings, and instantly see if they were good or wicked. Several rulers wished to use this power, and she was at times bid to seek out evil to protect one dynasty or another. Eventually she became aligned in some way with the current ruling royal family, something that had stayed true for several generations. She was always there, as a guardian or offering guidance. She had been taken as their symbol after some time and seen with great importance to them and it all worked out until...
....At some point, she was told she should lie and find 'wickedness' in a person who was good. She refused, she did however see wickedness in the Emperor's Son, who was soon to ascend to the Throne. No one wanted to believe her, and the Emperor's Son used dark sorcery to curse her to a human form upon hearing of her claims. He then had her imprisoned.
He tried to make her part of his harem, to continue her punishment, but she escaped. It is thought, the ill fortune that fell upon him afterwards was because of her. She fled the lands of her birth where she'd lived countless years. Men were sent to hunt her, so she has since traveled far from there, beyond her reach. Now however, her horns and scales of pure gold draw the wrong sort of attention at times. She longs to find a way to break her curse, but the magic used upon her is many times more ancient than she is. -
