• Biography

  Demons; beasts, monsters, inhuman creatures that prey on the flock of mankind. For centuries, the best that mankind could do was run and hide, praying that stone walls were shelter enough to let them see the next morning. While those calling themselves demonslayers did exist, rarely were the warriors strong enough to fell the fiercest, largest, and most intelligent monsters who plagued the land.
  
  Enter the Arketh Organization. Shrouded in mystery, the company offered a new tool to use against their monstrous adversaries: demonids. Man-made demons. Fight fire with fire, as they say. Each demonid was paired with a human handler, who "broke" it, forcing its subservience, creating a living, breathing weapon. Thus, the Arketh Organization became the single most effective protectors of the land, amassing huge political power until it essentially controlled it. While the company had began as a purely benevolent organization working for man's best interests, a corruption was stirring within the company and a darker agenda slowly began to form in the organization's ranks.
  
  Laila was one of those demonids. An efficient and effective fighter, she truly was a perfect killing machine. Or so her handler thought. Most handlers treated their demonids as brute animals, despite the fact that they are, in fact, as intelligent as humans. Laila's handler, a man named Rakis, treated her no differently, forbidding her to speak or to interact with humans in any way. For Laila, this repression barely registered...One day, she and Rakis were ordered to deal with a town's demon infestation. While staying at the inn, she was visited by the innkeeper's teenaged son, who, while at first repulsed by her true form, became fascinated by her and tried to converse with her. At first shying away from her, Laila began to open up to him, speaking to him in halting phrases. Eventually, Rakis discovered them. He began to beat the son, but Laila, trying to protect her new friend, attacked and killed her handler. She swiftly fled the town, knowing that the Arketh organization would send their forces to claim the newly rouge demonid.
  
  Homeless and purposeless, Laila wanders the land. She does what she was bred for, fighting other demons, but now uncensured, she begins to feel her demonic nature within her, tempting her to destruction and feasting on the creatures she was designed to protect. Can she resist her darker ways? Or will she merely become the monster that her ancestry demand?
  
  ((OOC: Yeah, I know, it's kind of long and wordy. This was originally the basic plot for a webcomic idea that never came to be, but one day may. Most of the character names, the organization name, etc. were made up on the spot just for writing this. It's kinda cliche, I know, but I'm always open to suggestions! Of course, I'm happy to adjust her backstory for rping.))

• Description

  *Laila's skin appears to be like human skin but actually a very light armor-like shell.
  *Each "section" on her arms, neck, fingers/claws and waist are armored parts that separate. They protect a part of her body which can be extended by several inches between each part. These parts, unlike her "armor," is closer to a leathery skin, and thus can be cut. Her wings are also made of this leathery skin (see picture for a better explanation!)
  *Her "human" face is very pale by human standards,but not unusual enough that she can't disguise herself. Her skin armor is a sleek, lustrous white, and her wings and other leathery parts are a dark brown-red.
  *Laila's wings can be minimized into her back.
  *Laila's teeth are all sharp incisors. Her lips are naturally a dark purple and she has a forked tongue.
  *Technically, Laila is not female or male. The Arketh Organization made it so that the created Demonids do not have genitals, and could therefore not reproduce. This makes the population easy to control and keeps the demonids from becoming another demonic race. Laila appears as a human female, and can be described with female pronouns, but is really an "it."
  *When disguised as a human, Laila wears a long, floor length robe with long sleeves to hide her clawed hands and feet. She wears a scarf around her neck and face to hide her neck and the part of her armor that extends on her chin. She wears round, dark glasses to hide her eyes.
  *Laila has difficulty speaking, since she was forced into silence for so long by her handler. While she understands human speech, she speaks very slowly and haltingly, since she is still getting used speaking.
  *Laila, and all demons, is a carnivore. Although she can survive on a diet of raw meat, demons are naturally drawn to the taste of human flesh - a temptation that Laila attempts to resist.
