  • Scars: Heavily calloused hands, arms and back are littered with old scars of many past battles, but by far the worst is a long ugly twisted scar across her right forearm that warps the muscle grotesquely, as if the arm were nearly severed and reattached.

• Appearance

  Gretchen is a female orc paladin who's just barely past her prime. A stroke of bad luck and some rash decisions led to an accident that nearly cost her her right arm, and it was several years before she was able to pick her weapon back up again, albeit in her off hand now. She has very limited function of her right hand and straps her shield to that arm to use it. She's nowhere near the powerhouse she once was, but she is determined not to sit on her laurels while there are still things worth doing. Battle and road weary, but determined and proud, she eagerly accepts any opportunities to tutor or advise young would be fighters. She wears a set of heavy armor that is well used but also well cared for, helm carved in the shape of a roaring bear, obscuring all but her eyes. She is rarely, if ever out of her armor around others but if she is she has a hood or veil to hide her face, though there is nothing grotesque about it when revealed, other than some worry lines that are rather pronounced and her small tusks. Her ears are heavily gaged and she keeps her long braid tucked into her armor to prevent it from being a handheld. She wields a large blunt mace, simple design but solid work, and a shield newer than the rest of her equipment, the one thing she constantly replaces, only requesting that they emblazen it with a bear.

• Personality

  Gretchen is somewhat gruff and tends to let her actions do the talking, but when she does talk she speaks her mind. If she thinks her opinion will be unwelcome she usually keeps it to herself but she cannot help but to try at least once to guide people down a less destructive path. If it is not accepted she does not continue to preach, only offering advise to those who take it well and seek it. She has long since given up faith in saving everyone since you cannot help those who don't wish it.
  She took her vows as a dark knight not to be a holy warrior but to be a bulwark against the monsters that most people cannot face, including those who abuse power. She is not above getting her hands dirty to do what she considers the right thing, in fact it is her duty to do what must be done so that the comman man can know peace.
  There is no glory in it. But it must be done. She has no family, no home, no legend, just her shield and her faith. Even that was almost lost to her with her mace arm. She knows shes in the twilight of her life with nothing to show for it but a battered shield and a few words of thanks. But shes not quite ready to rest yet.

• Abilities

  Gretchen is capable of calling upon her faith to bolster herself and allies and smite those who prove unjust. If needed she can also stabilize a potentially fatally wounded individual back to a saveable state, but only that, the rest has to be healed on it's own, and this drains her very quickly, depending on how severe the damage could take her out of the fight. She's capable of taking quite a bit of punishment, and can mirror back the damage she takes through her shield. Her strength of her power comes from her faith, so she cannot use any harmful abilities against someone she deems innocent. She's handy with her mace, despite her disabilities, and has worked a strap system to allow her to hold her shield steady even with her reduced grip so it does not hamper her.
