  Short, solid and square-shouldered, Kaitan has the look of a capable young woman who spends a lot of time in the sun. Her skin is a ruddy copper covered with a thick coat of freckles. Her nose is broad and flat, her lips thin, her jaw strong, her brown eyes shrewd. Her hair is red, straight and cropped below the ears.
  
  Kaitan is muscled, especially throughout her legs and core from long years riding. She dresses for hot weather with simple, light cotton clothing, often running to crop or hooded tops and wrap skirts or wide pants. Most of her clothing is of fine make and bears cultural indicators of her rank and family, including a patterned stripe that identifies her. She decorates herself with copper bangles and copper buckles on her clothing. On her belt she carries with her at least a dagger at all time, unconcealed, and when she can, additional practical equipment.

• Who is she?

  Kaitan is a fiercely individualistic creature whose first instinct has always been to keep herself alive, because no one else is going to go out of their way to. However, on top of that are years of working closely with others, learning how to be patient and function smoothy in many kinds of company, and discovering the necessity of well-placed trust and reliance.
  
  Out on her own, Kaitan is a little rough around the edges. Irreverent, sometimes crass, sarcastic, with a bold sense of humour, she does not necessarily look to ingratiate herself to others. She has had very little luck with long-term romances, but smashing success with short flings and casual affairs with people of all varieties. She sails through casual relationships on her own hard-won self-confidence. As for the people in her life that she does love, to say that she's loyal is a simplification of her feelings: she relies on them and their support as deeply as she makes herself reliable and available to them. Tunada, Pars, Laren and a few others are people she needs to keep safe in order to herself feel secure; lately, Fara, Qensuna, and Laedo have been edging onto that list.
  
  When having to represent her family or the Erysan people in general, Kaitan has painstakingly learned the rules of the upper class and, with effort, learned how to move easily through respectable circles. She knows all there is to know about etiquette thanks to her family's need for her to act like the child of their leader, and she knows how to charm the company with the best of them. Good at playing to her own strength and very aware of how she's seen among Fensirt's hierarchy, she wears the persona of the romanticized maverick, the youngest daughter who charges off into the wilderness whenever she feels, doesn't shy away from battle, gets into and out of all sorts of trouble. To be fair, that's all true to one degree or another. She may have settled in Fensirt and fallen in love with the city, but Kaitan has restless feet and a restless heart.
  
  She also has a temper, one that she has struggled for years to control, with reasonable success. It used to bubble up within her as an uncontrollable monster and, as a youngster and a young teen, resulted in fights and tragedy. These days she tries harder to channel it one of two ways: training, be it for riding or combat or on the shooting range, and through sharp-tongued humour or sarcasm. The latter still gets her in trouble, but less so than punching a guy.
