    His singing voice/style has a very punk/heavy metal sound and is very similar to Dave King of Flogging Molly, he can sing in ballad style as well. He drinks all forms and brands of Irish whiskey, but is partial to stouts like Guinness or Murphy's when it comes to beer. Ciaran plays lead guitar and does lead vocals in a rock/heavy metal/Celtic punk/folk cover band he helped found called the Hitmen. They started as a flogging molly tribute band, but it wasn't long before they expanded their repertoire. He's been in it since age 16.

    The members of the band are as follows: Ciaran on banjo, lead guitar, and lead vocals, Michael sheehan on acordian or sometimes 5 string banjo and backing vocals, Sean Dempsey on drum kit and/or Bodhran, Killian 'O Donnell on tin whistle and/or rhythm guitar, Ben McGuire on bass, Danny O' Riley on mandolin, and Seamus Gleason on harmonica.

    Ciaran has played guitar since he was 10 and banjo since he was 13. He's been in jail several times for public intoxication and paraphernalia possession charges. At age 19 he got a 6 year prison sentence for firearm possession but Malone got it down to 2 years. He's been known to work out and occasionally participates in underground bare knuckle boxing matches.

    The gang Ciaran runs with, The Sons of Dublin, meets in the basement of one of Dublin city's oldest pub, The brazen head. The group, in one incarnation or another, has met there since the mid 60's.

    Ciaran committed his first murder in a drug fueled rage, having found his mother's killer at a pub. He followed him to the bathroom and proceeded to violently stab him. It was also in this knife fight that Ciaran lost part of his ear.
