Why 'Okami Yojimbo?'

Chances are good you arrived here from Furcadia, where the Character's name is represented as Okami Yojimbo. It's not his name, it's his designation.

Okami means 'Wolf' and Yojimbo means 'Bodyguard'

A wolf bodyguard is how this slave is listed.

More importantly, it's an homage to Usagi Yojimbo, the samurai rabbit. Most people know him as a guest star for the Ninja Turtles, but he had his own comic book before they started doing crossovers.

Usagi was very much his own rabbit.

A while back I started teaching myself Japanese. I've only really just started, am memorizing the Hiragana, Katakana, a few Kanji, and I know maybe 100 words, so nothing too major yet, but it's a beginning. When I get interested in something, I study it from all angles, so while learning Japanese, I've also started to look more deeply into the history of the Samurai.

I've always had a love of Chinese and Japanese culture. In trying to practice Chinese Taoism, I've been exposed to Buddhism and Zen philosophies. I've tried to wrap my head around various Koans. I have a deep LOVE of Chinese/Japanese mythology. but please remember, I am no master scholar here.

Anyway, when you add it all up: This was how I first met the Ronin known as Kagerou, and through writing together, I'll get to know him better, as well as practice my Japanese. As noted above, a major inspiration for him was Usagi Yojimbo, whom I've always been quite fond of. There was also Samurai Cat, Miaowara Tomokato, who may have influenced him on a more subconscious level.

I am aware that it's all romanticized ideal, and that many things may not be historically accurate, but this is a fantasy character, after all. I have had a few alts based in other cultures, Chinese, Celtic, Norse, Egyptian, and what-have-yous, but this is my first Samurai, and the first time I've tried to incorporate Bushido into an RP character. Bear with me and keep your expectations low. That way you can be excited by what you find xD

Some of you may know this already, but this profile, and the character named Okami Yojimbo on Furcadia, used to belong to Muramasa Ryu'Kage, who had the same design as Takemori Kagerou.

So ... What happened?

Ryu was being managed by a Japanese Moon Rabbit named Chifuyu since the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019. Chifuyu's player and I had gotten close over the years, but generally only OOCly. She'd had one character in mid-2017 who interacted sporadically with Purrcival, then Rennata, (whom many of you knew her as, as that was her main,) whom I didn't RP with except in passing, but in Furc whispers and Discord we were very chatty. While I was designing Ryu, she began building Chifuyu, and then when in use, they just clicked so well.

She passed away in December of 2019 and I was devastated. I miss her more than I can convey in words. I have put off playing Ryu ever since, (as of writing this, it's been over two years,) considered bringing him back a few times, but it just never felt right. I've decided I don't want to play him anymore, not as Ryu. In a lot of ways Ryu belonged to Chifuyu, and I'd rather believe they left Guildereim together to live Happily Ever After.

So this is my new version of the same basic premise. I'm still going to use the artwork she drew for me, because it was lovely and I truly believe she would want them to be used, but Chifuyu and Ryu are gone and neither has any connection to Kagerou.

If I've missed any edits, i.e. you see Chifuyu or Ryu'Kage mentioned somewhere else on this profile, please let me know.

I'm not gonna rule out anything, but I will say I like it when the language barrier is an issue, so don't feel like your character needs to suddenly speak Japanese. If they already do, great! If not, don't change it for Ryu.

That being said, I would love cultural classic supernatural interactions. Kitsune. Kirin. Oni. Kappa. Tengu. Or even something more modern Urban Legend, like the Slit-Mouth Woman or Teke Teke. Whatever, if it's a Japanese spook, or Yokai, I'm interested.

He's so new of a character, that I'd like to see all sorts of experiences, since that's the best way for him to grow.

Be nice to him. Be mean to him. Become a lover. Become an enemy. Just keep in mind, actions have consequences.

I'd love to flesh out my character's relations page in all five categories, and we need *YOU* to help us accomplish that.
