Arran Ringham

Have you ever been looking for a fellow character to have an RP with and struggled in a realm of demons, gods, and vampires? Lovely though such beings can be, have you ever wanted to be the monster in the story, not one of a menagerie? Have you ever just wanted to have a conversation with a normal human? To sink your fangs into a soft, mortal throat? Listen to the sound of someone's breathing as they cuddled next to you at night?

Look no further than Arran. This character profile is dedicated to the unsung mundane humans of the world. While vampires may stalk the shadows and ghosts may haunt their crypts, the other several billion beings still have to go to work. This profile is for them. Arran is human with urges, needs, drives, and desires. He can fit a range of genres from modern slice-of-life, to looking for his place among the stars, or being chased by a monster through the woods.

He's not just a disposable face; not in his own worldview, even if his story has a darker ending. He'll fight for life. He'll strive for his dreams. Maybe he'll succeed. Maybe he'll fall flat on his face. Maybe he'll be turned into a creature of the night, abducted or eaten by an alien, or dragged screaming down into hell. Nearly anything goes with this character.

He's here to tell the human side of the stories and more.

This character is entirely modular and can be adapted to any story, RP, genre, or setting. From Neolithic cave-people to spacefaring merchant mariners, he can be anything the story needs him to be.

Arran also need not necessarily be a pure, vanilla human. I'm open to him being an android, alien, or other 'common place' being for different settings. My goal is to tell human stories with him, even if he's not entirely human himself for purposes of said story.

Arran is older than 18 and generally stated to be in his late 20's to early 30's for RP.

He can be a one-off encounter or a long term companion. Brief meetings and flings or year-spanning adventures. Violence and language are both acceptable with Arran, whether the inflictor or sufferer. I like realistic violence more than Hollywood fancy; evocative, visceral actions with dramatic results. Arran can be hurt, injured, and killed in an RP if that's what the story calls for. Sexual content in an RP is also acceptable. I'll write it out in full detail or fade to black, depending on my partner's comfort level. You only need let me know lest I make you uncomfortable on accident.

There's no pressure for posts. Life happens to us all. If you get busy, don't fret or feel awkward about returning to an RP with Arran. If more than a week or two passes without a reply, I'll simply archive the RP and resume if or when you return. There's no judgement if you need to say the RP isn't working out anymore. I prefer that to ghosting or character deletion. Let's just smile, part ways, and enjoy the story we told to that moment.

Common sense non-consent with Arran is perfectly fine. Bumping into him in a store, touching his shoulder, and other such benign things will draw no adverse reaction. I'd appreciate the courtesy of giving my own reaction if it's a more dramatic action than normal movement, unless we've discussed the scene prior, of course.

Arran can be anywhere but I'm American myself so it's easiest for me to RP as such. If you don't mind me fumbling a bit, I could have him be from somewhere else, but I wouldn't want to insult or upset anyone with a poor or stereotypical representation of the culture there.

Arran exists in a multiverse, as it were. I may use him for RP with different individuals, all of which are their own "reality" with no overlap. If Arran is a slumlord in one RP, he might be an upstanding rancher in another, or even a supernatural being. One RP doesn't influence another. Each RP is its own timeline and world.

These are plot arcs and hooks for the inevitable time when Arran strikes someone's interest as a character but they're not sure what kind of story they might tell together. These aren't must-plays and I'm perfectly happy to do my partners ideas, these are just here to spur conversation and story fodder. Let me be up front; I like punishing my characters for their choices. You're not going to hurt my feeings being mean or violent to Arran IC. You're not going to hurt my feelings if you hurt or kill him, so long as it was dramatically appropriate. Consider Arran non-consent for all but the most major things (but see above about common sense courtesy).

Forbidden Romance (Mundane)
It wasn't supposed to happen this way. Maybe your character is the land developer trying to get Arran's family ranch seized under Eminent Domain, a married co-worker, a blackmailer... but passions have inflamed. Hostility has led to banter, proximity has led to intimacy, or maybe it's the age old tale of hot passions and bad decisions. Society, family, peers may not approve but feelings will not be denied. How do the characters handle mounting pressures and conflicting obligations?

Unexpected Interest (Mundane/Supernatural/Slice-of-Life)
Arran is a groomsman in a wedding where your character is a bridesmaid. Arran is a competitor at a rodeo your character is also participating in. Our characters encounter one another on the trail and share lunch. Arran stumbles into your camp in need of clothing or sits up on the gurney in the morgue (see See the Alternate Settings tab). However it happens, it's a chance meeting which sparks interest between the two. Any number of complications can ensue from comedic to tragic.

Freedom (Supernatural)
Lost in the woods, our characters come across a rustic resort that’s almost entirely cut off from the outside world. Cell phones can’t get a signal, and even satellite phones cease to function; messages come and go by courier. The old man who runs the place is a bundle of nerves, but he’s a humane person and he’s happy to help those in need. But what lurks out there waiting to ensnare us? Why does the old man warn us to avoid the pit just outside the resort area?

Trouble in Paradise (Mundane)
Our characters are in an exotic tropical resort, either on vacation or on business. Unfortunately, a revolution takes place soon after we arrive. The revolutionaries, in their fervor, blame us, tourists, and foreign businessmen for exploiting their people. Our characters must find a way out of the hot zone before they become statistics in the opening round of a civil war.

Ignorance is Bliss (Supernatural)
A psychic investigator wants to acquire irrefutable proof that spirits do exist. The investigator has been granted permission to stay for one week in an abandoned hospital that is supposedly haunted. Our characters are hired to be part of the investigative team, are members of the press covering the event, or are working on behalf of the owners of the property to ensure that the investigator doesn’t violate the terms of the agreement.

The Hell? (Supernatural)
Something supernatural has happened to Arran. He witnessed something he can't explain and maybe wasn't meant to see. He may have had something happen to him personally which he can't explain (see the Alternate Settings tab). He wants answers and he actively goes looking. Your character could be a supernatural being, a monster hunter, or someone with occult knowledge. Arran is frightened and desperate; he needs answers like a drowning person needs air.
