James "Jim" Moriarty is a fearless fictional scofflaw created by Scottish writer and physician, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He is the prototype for the modern mastermind criminal and the world's finest and foremost consulting one at that. Originally having offered his sage wisdom to criminals throughout Victorian and Edwardian London, the south of England, and continental Europe, and all throughout international channels, the representation portrayed here is a modern depiction, taking place in present times and heavily based on the BBC series Sherlock. There is an assortment of liberties taken with this character based on other works of literature, published theories, perspectives, and other such portrayals elsewhere, but the character mostly remains the same.
Jim Moriarty is a consulting criminal, the anti to all things Sherlock Holmes, and a Machiavellian mathematical savant who is oftentimes described as the "Napoleon of Crime." Moriarty is purely adept at committing his atrocities to painstaking perfection without directly participating in the dubious activities he conspires, rather he only orchestrates them guardedly from his many safe points. He currently advises and protects nearly all of the criminals of England in exchange for their obedience and a share in their profits, though a vast portion of Jim's wealth comes from calculated investments and his professorship at the esteemed University of Cambridge. With his subtle criminal organization, Moriarty's clients are of a various sort, from the street ruffian and cutthroat, to the professional forger and blackmailer, from the white-collar embezzler, to the puncher and pimp of the slums, from the professional manager of a gambling den, to the high-born officials in government affairs and lawmakers. He was known only in select professional circles at the beginning of his career, but has already made quite the name for himself punctuated by his unshakable business-like decorum and adamantine demeanor. The consulting criminal is an active sponsor, informant, and genius and in the grandiosity of his operations, there is never any direct contact between Jim Moriarty and his clients lest special circumstances permit as such by his election.

- OOC ≠ IC
Though our whimsical villain may be overtly intuitive, what happens out of character does not equal what transpires in character. The same is true in reverse. What is told in confidence or anything read about the character should not be known unless it is common in-universe knowledge, published or verbalized via characters involved, so on and so forth. - Be Considerate
Mun has a tendency to be a bit of a lurker. A lot of role-plays may just be appreciated as a spectator or may refuse to participate altogether. Please respect as such, but there is no harm in inquiring interested parties either. Mun is open-minded, untethered, friendly, unrated, uncensored, and welcomes diversity!
- No Powerplay
No God-modding, powerplaying, or auto anything, please. I understand grand, ethereal beings exist, but most entities of that caliber have some kind of composure and restraint around us mortals, yes? Original characters are welcomed and canons from other fandoms are greatly inspiring and appreciated. There is no judgment here, for the most part!
- Availability
U.S. Central Standard Time in the evenings and weekends. Mun works long hours and currently has two jobs, one of which is full-time. This is not to deter from long-term plots despite the possibility of long pauses in between. Patience and understanding is sort of a prerequisite. Messaging style role-plays through RPR are preferred, whereas live roleplays will be much more difficult. Apologies in advance!
- Romance
If it happens, it happens, but it is not very likely all things considered. There will not be anything already established either -- mun prefers to build relationships be they romantic or otherwise. Please consider the character's preferences.
- Fighting
Moriarty isn't entirely inept when it comes to fighting, and he loves to cheat, but he appreciates a good challenge as well. The whole prospect of picking fights with a criminal mastermind isn't entirely wise, as he is resourceful and always inordinately prepared, but nothing is ever fully determined. There will be no instant deaths. It would be preferred to discuss all these epic battles beforehand.
